Thursday 11/8 ~ Rescued

The scripture for today, November 8 (11/8), is Proverbs 11:8 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-Joseph-Cover-Thumbnail“The righteous man is rescued from trouble, and it comes on the wicked instead.”

We know that God does not always rescue us from trouble here on this temporary earth. He certainly didn’t rescue Jesus from all his troubles.

Sometimes God has an assignment for you just as he did for Jesus.  He may want you to be in the midst of trouble ~ war, an enemy at work, an obnoxious neighbor, death of a loved one caused by a reckless driver, a government worker demanding a bribe ~ so you can demonstrate to the world the contrast: God’s ways vs. Satan’s ways.

Eventually, the boomerang effect will take place on those following Satan. What they inflict on you will be inflicted on them.

And eventually, if you have followed God’s ways even in times of trouble, he will indeed rescue you. He will welcome you into his home ~ heaven ~ safe for all eternity.

When you can’t find your faith, light a candle of hope

My prayer for Wednesday

Image result for heaven and earth

Lord God of hosts, you sing with the stars and dance with comets. When you weep, the oceans fill, deep and sad.  You step down to the moon, then onto the meadows of earth.  When you laugh, the mountains shake with gaiety and laugh with you. At the end of the day, you ride the sun back to your home and sit on your throne, contented to have walked with your children once again for a little while.

God, I thank you for slowing down due to occasional physical problems. I have some new equipment so I can make some things with it while I rest. But mostly I thank you for heaven. This is not my home. Just as my heart bowed at the foot of your cross those years ago, I long to be at the foot of your throne so I can bow to you there. I will weep tears of happiness and I will sing the song of victory in Jesus.

Wednesday 11/7 ~ Seeing the face of God

The scripture for today, November 7 (11/), is Psalm 11:7 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

00-Stephen-Cover-Kindle-Thumbnail“For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.”

The face of God! How all who believe in God long to see his face. With human perceptions, you cannot comprehend it. But you can comprehend this…..

God’s eyes ~ “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good” (Proverbs 15:1).

God’s mouth ~ “I have put my words in your mouth” (Isaiah 51:16).

God’s nose ~ “The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma….The smoke of the incense together with the prayers of the saints went up before God” (Genesis 8:21; Revelation 8:4).

God’s ears ~ “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.”

  • Perhaps when you continually watch both good and bad people around you with the same kind of care that God does……
  • perhaps when you speak the words that come out of the mouth of God……
  • perhaps when you send your prayers like sweet incense to God……
  • perhaps when you are attentive to the silent cry of those around you ~~
  • just perhaps, in some way, you are seeing the face of God.
  • Perhaps.

The Lover of My Soul

My prayer for Tuesday

Almighty and majestic God of my heart and soul. You are so astonishing. You made all I can see and more.  You even left the spark of life in things so I could re-create with you. You left so much unmade to delight my imagination. You provided all I needed and more. How I love my garden. You did everything just right and I, your child, magnify you in my doings and makings and creatings.

My Lord, thank you that people I know are treating the “underdogs” better and accepting them more warmly. And thank you for the people in the newspaper, most going through difficulties and even tragedies, and who could use encouragement. I need to buy some notepaper and envelopes and some stamps. It only takes a moment to jot down a note of encouragement and a prayer for them. Satan will not win. When I am down, I will let others help me. When others are down, I will want to help them. Together, we will march on Satan, the Destroyer, and win. Thank you for trusting in me to represent you on earth.

Tuesday 11/6 ~ True Grit

The scripture for today, November 6 (11/6), is Nehemiah 11:6 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-Mefiboset-KINDLE Thumbnail“The descendants of Perez who lived in Jerusalem totaled 468 able men.”

Just who was Perez, and why was this even mentioned in the Bible? Perez was a descendant of Judah, and an ancestor of Jesus (Matthew 1:3).

Why was living in Jerusalem a big deal at that time? Because Jerusalem had been attacked and destroyed. It was nothing but rubble and ashes. Earlier, other Jews had returned to Jerusalem and rebuilt the temple. Now it was time to rebuild the walls.

These 468 brave people had to agree to move into a burned-out city and rebuild on the ashes of previous homes. In the process of moving building stones out of the way to reuse in the city wall, they surely found skeletons of those who had been slaughtered in the attack decades before.

At first, the Jews had blamed the Babylonians for destroying their city and temple. But eventually, they began re-reading the prophets who had warned them about their own sins. Finally, they turned inward and placed the blame where it really belonged: Themselves. Their own pride had destroyed their temple and their city.

Following repentance, they acted. Was it easy rebuilding a broken city? Not any easier than rebuilding a broken home, a broken congregation, a broken life. You must look at your own part in your own destruction and begin building anew.

It took grit.  What is yours like? Have you rebuilt anything important lately?

My prayer for Monday

I look up to you, God of heaven and earth and of my life. You are always good and right and never change what right is. You are always just but tempered with mercy. Your judgment is perfect. Your actions and movements among mankind are right.  I can always depend on that.  That is why you are God. I claim you as mine, and you make me your child. I worship you above all things.

For heaven, my Home, I thank you. Ah, I can hardly wait to get there. You have prepared a place for me and I will see loved ones gone long ago. And Adam and Abraham and Jeremiah and Joseph and John. We will certainly be busy, won’t we? What a heavenly choir we will be as we join together at your throne and make our songs resonate around your glorious throne. What a grand day it will be. Thank you for the promise of heaven in the morning.

Monday 11/5 ~ But I can’t figure out God

The scripture for today, November 5 (11/5), is Ecclesiastes 11:5 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

00-LUKE-KINDLE Cover-Thumbnail“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.”

Are you ever frustrated because you cannot touch God or see God? In times of deep unbearable distress, probably a lot of people feel that need. But, if you could touch or see him, he could not be everywhere at once; he could not be omnipresent. That means, if he was with you where you could see and touch him, the rest of the world would have to wait for him to get done with you and go to the next person.

Are you ever frustrated because you cannot figure out God? In times of great challenges to faith, probably a lot of people feel that need. But, if you could figure out God, He would not be superior to you. It means that either he would not be God, or you would be God also.

Be grateful that you cannot touch or see God. Be grateful you cannot fully understand God. Be grateful that, despite all his greatness, he dearly loves you ~ you, a mere speck in the cosmos. He even knows your name. Ah, what a God ~ the lover of your soul.

My prayer for Sunday

Oh, God, you are water in a desert, calm in a storm, a sheltering wing in fear. You are warmth in the snow, light in the dark, a breeze in the heat. You are a song in loneliness, strong breath in sickness, and the lover of my soul. You made me in your likeness, and though I am imperfect in my weak efforts to be like you, I will always praise you and draw closer to you than I was before.

Thank you for souls you have led to me. Thank you for giving me the heart to share your love with them and knowledge of how to have a better life here and eternal life with you. Ah, I am always so elated when they decide to come to you and spend the rest of their life as Christians. Send me more, Father. Send me more so we can work together to help them escape temptations and be safe in your everlasting arms.
