Jesus was condemned to crucifixion because he said he would destroy the temple and build it back in three days.

Fact of the Day

No!  Jesus did not say that. When the Jewish leaders challenged Jesus he answered, “You will destroy this temple, but I will rebuild it in three days.”

Oops of the Day

The temple in Jerusalem will be destroyed by Rome in AD 70. Then Jesus will come back. Then the end of the world.

Matthew 24:42-51 – Mark 13:1-37 – Luke 21:10-36

John 2:19-22 – I Peter 1:4-8 – Amos 8:10-11 – Matthew 10:1-42 – Matthew 16:28 – Mark 9:1 – Revelation 12:9-12 – John 12:31 – Ephesians 6:12 – Colossians 1:18 – Colossians 2:14 – I Corinthians 6:19 – Hebrews 9 & 10 – etc.

Fact of the Day

No!   The Key is found in Mark 13:30 – ‘THIS GENERATION WILL NOT PASS AWAY UNTIL ALL THESE THINGS TAKE PLACE. Let’s look at what happened during their lifetime, following Matthew’s account:

WHEN will these things happen?
Not one stone will be left standing of Jesus’ Body until he “rebuilds” it in 3 days
Jesus was the chief cornerstone.  When it fell (crucifixion), the entire Mosaic system collapsed DURING THEIR LIFETIME. 

WHAT SIGNS of Jesus coming?
v. 6 – wars still going on, physical and spiritual
v. 8 – famine (of Word of God)
v. 8 – earthquakes at Jesus’ death and resurrection both DURING THEIR LIFETIME

BIRTH PANGS
v. 9-12 – hate, betrayals, killings, false prophets – endure to end. How JESUS & APOSTLES were treated
v. 13-14 – Gospel of KINGDOM to whole world dur. their lifetime at Pentecost, then the end of Mosaic AGE
v. 15 – “abomination” (idol worship & lusts of flesh) “desolation” (from no water of life) SINS OF WORLD IN THE TEMPLE OF JESUS’ BODY on the cross DURING THEIR LIFETIME

WHAT will be the SIGNS of Jesus COMING as King over his kingdom, the church? 
v 16-20– In Judea must flee. Don’t be a part of the mob that will demand his death.
v 21-22 – Then greatest tribulation since creation (cut ½ for elect’s sake)
v 23-26 – The Son of God was slapped and insulted by the priest. The Son of God was beaten to the point of death, then interrupted 1/2 way through to be crucified. 
v 27-28 – False Christs/Prophets (harassment at the cross)
v 29 – Son of Man at cross attracted the priestly vultures  
v 30 – Faced down Satan.  Sun & moon darkened, earthquakes, powers in heaven fell AT CRUCIFIXION
v 30 – THEN the sign of Son of Man in sky.  Ascended back to heaven  DURING THEIR LIFETIME  

WHAT SIGNS end of age?
v. 31 – Nailed Mosaic law to the cross (also Hebrews 9 & 10). 
Then conquered death 3 days later. 
Then Elect in heaven (apostles) gathered (in Jerusalem) to begin the KINGDOM in heaven,
Then Day of Pentecost on earth – the kingdom, the church established IN THEIR LIFETIME.

No one tried to kill Jesus until his last year

Matthew 12:14 – Matthew 26:4 – Mark 14:1 – Luke 22:2 – John 7:1-2 – John 7:19-25 – John 7: 30 & 44 – John 8:59 – John 10:31 & 39 – John 11:53

Fact of the Day

No! By the end of Jesus’ first year, the religious leaders began plotting to kill him.  For the next 2-1/2 years, he dodged them sometimes, and faced them down sometimes.  He did not give in until he decided to. It was always on his terms. He was always in control.

(1) Right after he healed on the Sabbath;

(2)  Right after he fed 5000 miraculously;

(3) Right after he called himself the Bread of Life;

(4) Right after he told the religious leaders they were sons of Satan;

(5) Right after he told them he could grant eternal life;

(6) Right after he brought Lazarus back to life;

(7) Right after Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem as their king;

(8) Just before Jesus’ 3rd Passover of his ministry.

OOPS OF THE DAY 

Palm branches were always waved to celebrate Passover,

so that’s what people waved when Jesus entered Jerusalem as their king.

Matthew 21:7-10  –  Leviticus 23:39-43

FACT OF THE DAY

No!  The Passover was held each year in in late March or Early April.  Palm branches were waved in early October.   Palm branches were part of the Feast of Booths which was an extension of the Day of Atonement – the Day of SALVATION. 

Passover was in the spring and the Feast of Booths was in the autumn.  So the people declared him their SAVIOR symbolically with the palm branches.

Jesus was humble by riding on the colt when he entered Jerusalem and people called him king.  

Matthew 21:5  –  Numbers 22:21  –  II Sammuel 18:9   –  Kings 1:33 & 38 & 44  – 

 Judges 5:9-10  –  Judges 10:3-4  –  Judges 12:14

Fact of the Day

No!  Donkeys were the ride of kings.  Jesus was humble by riding on the colt.

  • Judge Deborah sang,  “My heart is with Israel’s princes….you who ride on white donkeys.”
  • Supreme Judge Jair led Israel 22 years and had 30 sons who rode 30 donkeys. 
  • Supreme Judge Abdon, who ruled Israel 8 years, had 70 sons and grandsons who rode on 70 donkeys.
  • Absalom, King David’s son, rode on a mule.
  • David ordained that his son, Solomon, ride on his own mule through the street as one proof that he chose Solomon to be the next king.

Jesus gave Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Then he preached the first church sermon in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost. Then he went to Rome and became the first pope.

Fact of the Day

No! 

  • 1-Jesus gave the binding keys of the kingdom to all the apostles.
  • 2-All the apostles preached in the twelve languages of the crowd on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem. Only Perer’s sermon is recorded.
  • 3-Even in Peter’s second letter where he said he was about to die, he only identified himself as an indentured servant, apostle, and Peter (the pebble) – never as pope.
  • 4-He was married.
  • 5-When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome, he greeted thirty Christians by name.  Why didn’t he greet Peter?

400 years after the life of Peter, Jerome declared that Peter became the first pope in Rome during the second year of Claudius Caesar’s reign (AD 43) to the 14th year of Nero (AD 55).  Here is a timeline of Peter in the New Testament.  Dates are  based on the reign of high priests, kings, and major destructions.

  • AD 30 – With the 12, preaches twice.  (Acts 2-3)
  • AD 31  – With  John, heals a cripple, are put in the temple jail, and released (Acts 3-4)
  • AD 32  – Catches 2 Christians lying (Acts 5:1-11)
  • AC 33  – With the 12, preaches, arrested, beaten, then warned (Acts 5:12-42)
  • AD 34  – With the 12, chooses deacons. (Acts 6)
  • AD 35  – Stephen martyred (Acts 6-7)
  • AD 36 – With John, grants spiritual gifts to Philip’s converts in Samaria (Acts 8:4-24)
  • AD 37 – Becomes a traveling missionary) Galatians 1:19)
  • AD 38 – In seaport Joppa, Peter raises a dead woman. (Acts 9:32-43)
  • AD 40 – In seaport Caesarea, converts Italian centurion (Acts 10)
  • AD 42 – Returns to Jerusalem to defend converting a Gentile (Acts 11)
  • AD 44 – Arrested by King Agrippa I (after killing James). escapes, leaves Jerusalem and goes to Caesarea (Acts 12).
  • AD 45-46 – Newly converted Paul goes on missionary trip.
  • AD 47 – In Jerusalem with the apostles and James (Jesus’ brother) for church leaders to discuss accepting Paul’s Gentile converts. (Acts 15:1-29)
  • AD 48 -The last we hear of the apostles being together
  • AD 50 – Meets Paul in Antioch who accuses  Peter of favoriting Jews over Gentiles (Galatians 2:11-14)
  • AD 52 – Goes to Corinth, preaches, and converts (I Corinthians 1:21)
  • AD 57 – Paul writes the church in Rome.  Greets 30 Christians by name in Rome. Never mentions Peter. (Romans 16)
  • AD 63 – Peter writes his 1st letter (about the time Rome  burns) to Christians in the Roman provinces of Pontus (N) Galatia (Central) Cappadocia (E), Asia and Bithynia (W)  all part of today’s Turkey.
  • AD 64 – Rome burns
  • AD 65 – Writes his 2nd letter to Christians, not calling himself the pope, but calling himself a pebble, servant,  apostle and eye-witness of Jesus, then says he will die soon.  Talks much about the end of the world, praises Paul, calls Jesus Morning Star (Lucifer).
  • AD 66 – Peter dies.
  • AD 67 – Paul dies
  • AD 70 – Jerusalem burns

Jesus gave the apostles the power to forgive sins and their decision will be accepted in heaven.

Fact of the Day

No!  The term “shall be” or “will be” (future tense) was not in the original Greek. In the Greek, the term is really “shall have been” was “has been” (past tense).   In other words, whose ever sins they forgave were already forgiven in heaven.

No!  The Bible says Jesus and his apostles healed the maimed.  “Maimed” comes from a Greek word meaning crippled in any way including amputation.  Jesus & his apostles could make arms and legs grow back!

When Jesus walked on water to get to his twelve on the Sea of Galilee, it was about 3:00 AM. They had already been struggling eight hours and by then were 3-1/2 miles from shore.
