Sunday 12/31 ~ Only forever

The scripture for today, December 31 (12/31), is Luke 12:31 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-BOOK 7-SHADOW-ChildsCartoonMedium“But seek his kingdom and these things will be given to you as well.”

Do we actively seek God’s kingdom? Or do we drift and feel like God should feel obligated to take us into his kingdom and into his heaven? Do we feel like we’re “not so bad”, so God would be bad to not take us into his kingdom and into his heaven?

Heaven is God’s home, not ours. God has a door into his home, just like we have a door into our home. God is not required to open that door to just anyone, just like we are not required to open our door to just anyone.  We cannot just show up at the door and smile and assume he will let us in, any more than people who knock on our door and smile can assume we will let them in.

We let people into our home who we have gotten to know and whose motives we trust. Have you given God a chance to get to know you and trust your motives? Are your motives to enter heaven, God’s home? Do you even like God?

This life we live on earth is not our permanent life or residence. This is just the foyer to our eternal home. Do we live like the earth is all there is? Do you fear hell?  Do you prefer heaven?

You are about to enter a brand new year. Today, decide to start over fresh and set your new goal: To live in God’s home where there are no more years. Only forever.

Gentle Time

When God created all things good,
Something special He understood
We would need for pain to languish,
Softening life’s chance loss or anguish.

With tender heart and word sublime,
He spoke into existence Time.

One moment’s word or deed is done;
An irrevocable web is spun.
Tossed about while tragedy batters,
A delicate life breaks and shatters.

But Time can mend the life that’s broken
With patient remedies softly spoken.

Stabbing pain invades the flesh
Till thoughts and agonies enmesh.
No strength to bear; it’s past enduring.
Oh for relief that comes with curing.

Time brings tranquility’s soothing ray.
Fair Hope disarms what passes away

Death robs a life ~ it cares not how.
Yes, bitterly we all must bow
As precious ones are snatched from sight.
Goodbye? Relent, oppressive plight!

Time whispers then, “I conquer all!
Be reunited when trumpets call.”

Someday our God will vanquish fears.
There’ll be no death, no pain, no tears.
He’ll change His children ~ all mortals we ~
To peaceful immortality.

With nothing left save the sublime,
He’ll then dissolve what we call Time.

Saturday 12/30 ~ The Wings of Time

2017 rainbow

The Wings of Time

What was that which just flew by
On wings of a whisper and a sigh ~
The form was vague, the hues o’er cast ~
In to the arms of eager past?

Now ’tis still, it’s ceased to flee,
And I am amazed at what I see.
Hard to perceive when viewed so near ~
Yesterday, last week, entire year.

Wait!  Not yet!  Do not depart!
Didn’t it just recently start?
How can it be?  It’s out of hand.
Nothing worked out like I had planned.

No mountain I see, nor great temple.
The year I built was plain and simple.
But I reflect with kinder view ~
The form its shape, the colors their hue.

At the time I just could not see
The value frustrations could be to me.
What God and I each had in mind
Often differed.  What did I find?

I touched a life and wiped a tear,
I held a child and calmed a fear.
A word of love was passed along,
A happy time was framed with song.

So now ’tis passed, as I’ve reflected,
Wasn’t so bad.  And I’ve erected
Amidst a world of ebb and flow
A loving, shimmering, fleeting rainbow.

A personal note

Image result for woman exhausted at night

Today was the first day since November 1 (2 months) that I have stopped and tried to relax.

I have been pulling all-nighters at least once a week and would have more if I’d had the strength.  The rest of the time I worked usually to 2:30 AM.  All that to get my 18 new children’s books out in time for Christmas.  Eight are A Child’s Bible Kids and ten are A Child’s Bible Heroes.  My ad said they teach values.

Today, I went to a ladies Bible class, then grocery shopping (my refrigerator was pretty empty), then came home, sat out on my front porch in a wicker chair (it was 75 today), and read.

Scripture for Friday 12/22 ~ My soul is overwhelmed with joy

The scripture for today, December 22 (12/22), is 1st Samuel 12:22 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

03-Abraham-MediumCover“For the sake of his great name, the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own.”

Among all the pretend gods that people have worshipped, there has never been one who wants us to be his children. Islam teaches Allah made man to have someone to worship him. Islam teaches we are Allah’s servants. So sad.

Oh, how much mankind misses by not opening up to the one and only true God.  He wants us to be his children. He wants to lavish us with his love.

God made us because God is Love.  Love must have someone to love. That’s us, dear friends. That’s us!

Amazing love of God. It pleases him to make us his own. It pleases him! We the lowly. We the weak. We the inconsistent. We the sinners.

Let us reply, “My soul is overwhelmed with joy.”

Scripture for Friday 12/15 ~ Forgiveness lifts the clouds

The scripture for today, December 15 (12/15), is Hebrews 12:15 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-BK 7-ShadowOfDeath-Cover-new-Medium“See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”

Bitterness.  It can cause us to miss the grace of God. Bitterness only causes trouble for ourselves and others and defiles us. Bitterness comes from our thinking of ourselves more highly than we ought (Romans 12:3), and forgetting that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Bitterness also leads to either bullying or shunning and ends in broken relationships. It all causes us to miss the grace of God.

The opposite of bitterness is forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean we condone what someone else has done. It does not mean we forget it. It does not mean we will stop being afraid of a dangerous person.

Forgiveness means we let go of it and let God handle it. It means we wish the best for the offending person or situation. We can wish even the most hardened criminal will someday turn to God and turn his life around.

Remember, God forgives us as we forgive others.

Forgiveness lifts weights off of us until we feel as though we could soar. Forgiveness takes the clouds away and brings back the sunshine.

Forgiveness makes sure we do not miss the grace of God.

Scripture for Thursday 12/14 ~ IF

The scripture for today, December 14 (12/14), is 1st Samuel 12:14 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

changes-in-worship-cover-medium“IF you fear the Lord and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and IF both you and the king who reigns over you follow the Lord your God ~ good!”

The Jews had just insisted on having a king rule over them instead of a supreme judge. Samuel replied and said IF. IF they serve and obey the Lord, and IF they both (people and king) follow the Lord, then it is good.

Today as then, some people live in a nation where the king/government does not follow the Lord. What to do? Galatians 5:22 tells us to be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled, for “against such things there is no law”.

Is it hard to do this when crooked officials are getting all the advantages and you are being cheated? Indeed it is. It may seem they are on top of things. In reality, they are at the bottom. Never ever let others drag you down to their level. It is not worth it.  Keep your eyes on God!

Hold fast!

       Stand firm!

                Do the right thing!

In the end, they will lose. You and God will win. That is good!

Scripture for Wednesday 12/13 ~ A God-shaped emptiness

The scripture for today, December 13 (12/13), is Ecclesiastes 12:13 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-Titus-Cover-Medium“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

When the King James Version was published in the early 1600s, they italicized all words that were not in the original language of the Bible. The word “duty” above was not in the original. Translators inserted it to help us understand the original. But perhaps, in this case, it did not help. Fearing God is the whole of man ~ not our duty, but our essence.

Fearing the Lord is a gift. Isaiah 11:2 predicted regarding Jesus: “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him ~

“…the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,”

“…the Spirit of counsel and of power,”

“…the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Solomon had tried everything to find happiness, as he explained in his book of Ecclesiastes ~ Pleasure (ch. 2), hard work (ch. 3), advancement (ch. 4), riches (ch. 5). None brought him true happiness.  Eventually, he concluded that only one thing can bring that happiness deep down inside where no one and no situation in life can touch it ~ God. God is the whole of man ~ if we let Him be.

Why? Ecclesiastes 3:11 explains it richly: “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” Another way to view this is “There is a God-shaped emptiness in the heart of man.” Fill your mind with the Word of God. Then God will fill your heart and being, and make you feel complete.

Scripture for Sunday 12/10 – Letting our minds catch up with our bodies

The scripture for today, December 10 (12/10), is Job 12:10 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

inside-cover-medium“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”

Let’s talk a moment about teenagers. Many adults joke that their teen is 16 going on 60. Let’s look at the situation this way. They may have bodies that have grown to that of an adult. But minds grow much slower, and teens must give their minds a chance to catch up!

As adults, it is our responsibility to help their minds catch up. Know enough about the Bible that you can apply scriptures to their activities and interests and friends. You may wish to make a list of your teenager’s activities, interests, and friends, and then list a scripture next to each. Proverbs is an excellent book to start with. Then when the occasion arises, be ready (even if you have to sneak into the other room a minute to consult your list) to instill some wisdom.

This way, it is not you speaking, but God speaking. God said, “My word will not return to me void” (Isaiah 55:11). And God is older and wiser than all of us.
