OOPS OF THE DAY ~ March 27

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible ...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

No prophet ever came from Galilee.

John 7:48-52 – 2 Kings 14:25  –  John 1:43-51

Fact of the Day

No!  Consider the source.  Who was saying this?  Look carefully. Also, notice what they call the worshipers:  A cursed mob that doesn’t even know the Law of Moses.  If they didn’t know, why had they traveled so far to come to the temple in Jerusalem for one of the major feasts of the Jews?

“The Pharisees retorted, “Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? 49 No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law—there is a curse on them.”

50 Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked, 51 “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?” 52 They replied, “Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”

Okay, so let’s “look into it.”  We find that Jonah was from Gath-Hepher, about three miles from Nazareth which was in Galilee.  Annnnd, the city of Capernaum means “city of Nahum”.  Hmmm…

The Jewish  religious leaders were power-hungry liars and killers!

OOPS OF THE DAY ~ March 15

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible ...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

A woman anointed Jesus with precious oil worth a year’s wages. That’s a lot of money just to put hairdressing on him in that dry climate.

Mark 14:3 & 5 – Exodus 30:22-30 – Psalm 23: 5 –  Revelation 5:10

Fact of the Day

No! Mary did pay probably an average year’s wages for that oil.  But why?  This was a way for her to make Jesus her Messiah, her anointed one, her priest and king.

And, while we’re at it, when Jesus, our Good Shepherd, anoints our heads with oil, he is also making us priests and kings.

OOPS OF THE DAY ~ March 7

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible ...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

The Samaritan woman at the well had lived with five men not her husband and the current one was not.  And she was an outcast since she went to the well at noon (Jewish time) or 5:00 PM (Roman time) and everyone always got their day’s supply of water in the morning.

John 4:15-18  –  John 4:39-42

Fact of the Day

No!  This woman had gone through the agony of being widowed five times!  Could you?  True, her sixth was not her husband, but she had been married to the others and lost them probably in tragedies of diseases and accidents and maybe even war.

She was respected in the city.  When she told them about Jesus, she influenced the whole city to stop what they were doing, go down to Jesus and hear him.
