OOPS OF THE DAY ~ November 9

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

Satan declared himself  the God.

Ezekiel 28:1-10

Fact of the Day

No!  The passage in Ezekiel refers to a MAN.  Satan is never called a man.  Also, this person DIES.  Satan never dies.  Nearly all kings in ancient times declared they were God or a god…

…including the Pharaoh of Egypt, the King of Assyria, the King of Babylon, the King of Persia, the King of Greece, and the Roman Caesars.  Here are a few more:

  • Aram-Sin  2255–2119 BC       Mesopotamia/Babylonia
  • Shulgi       2037–2028 BC      Mesopotamia/Babylonia
  • Amar-Sin  2046–2037 BC      Mesopotamia/Babylonia
  • Shu-Sin    2037–2028 BC      Mesopotamia/Babylonia
  • Empedocles  490–430 BC       Italy
  • Pharnavaz     326–234 BC       Iberia
  • Antiochus IV  215–164 BC       Greece
  • Antiochus I    6 BCE–38 BC     Persia
  • Pharaohs       3150–30 BC       Egypt
  • Naram-Sin of 2255–2119 BC   Mesopotamia/Babylonia
  • Emperors        221 BC–1911     China

OOPS OF THE DAY ~ November 8

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

The name of the devil is Lucifer.

Isaiah 14:12a –  Revelation 22:16

Fact of the Day

No!  Lucifer is Latin for the Hebrew word meaning “light bearer”, sometimes also called “morning star”.

If the name,  Lucifer, is Satan’s name, then the Bible said Jesus was Satan in Revelation 22:16.

Actually, there were two Catholic bishops by the name of Lucifer – “light bearer”.

  • In 270, Lucifer of Cagliari was made a  bishop.
  • In 306, Lucifer of Siena was made a bishop.

In 382, Jerome, a Catholic priest, was hired by the pope to translate the Bible from Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, into Latin.   Jerome capitalized the noun “light bearer”  and turned it into a proper name – Lucifer – in Isaiah 14:12.  But…

  • Tertullian (AD 160-225) never called Satan Lucifer & never said he fell..
  • Augustine of Hippo (354-430) never called Satan Lucifer and never said he fell.
  • Martin Luther (1483-1546) wrote that it was a “gross error” to claim Isaiah 14:12 referfed to Satan.
  • John Calvin (1509-1564) wrote that using Isaiah 14:12 to prove Satan’s name was Lucifer “arose from ignorance”

Regardless, in 1611, the King James Version failed to translate the Latin word, lucifer, into English, but kept the word untranslated, thus “officially” leading readers to believe Satan’s name was Lucifer.

The popularity of using this scripture to declare Satan’s name as Lucifer seems to have grown during  medieval literature, intermingling European folklore with Jerome’s Lucifer.

  • Around 1000, Beowulf and Lucifer intermingle as the same person.
  • In 1540, Faust referred to Satan as Lucifer.
  • In 1667 John Milton, in his Paradise Lost, named Satan Lucifer.

Also, during the Middle ages, in Islam, Lucifer was an archangel assisted by the Jinn Iblis who had rebelled against Allah.

Scripture for Monday, July 17 (7/17)

The scripture for today, July 17 (7/17), is 1st Corinthians 7:17 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-Mefiboset-KINDLE Medium“Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him.”

In some situations in life, this scripture is hard to accept. Sometimes life gets very, very hard. Sometimes it is hard to keep smiling, even to keep breathing. When will it end? Will it ever end?

But can it be that this is where God wants you? Can it be that the difficulties in your life right now are your assignments from God? God fights Evil from heaven and it is our place to fight Evil from earth. It is an ongoing battle. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

For some reason that cannot be understood right now, you are where God wants you to be. This is your assignment from God. Remember, we are “ambassadors for Christ” (II Corinthians 5:20). We must show the world that “all things work together for good to those who love the Lord” (Romans 8:28).

As a soldier for Christ, be brave. Think with a clear head. Hold fast. Stand firm.  Carry out your assignment.

The scripture for today, December 17 (12/17), is Revelation 12:17 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

JesusArmWrestlingSatan“Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring ~ those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.”

Verse 9 says the dragon is also the serpent which is also Satan.

There are some people who seem to be enraged all the time. We may never be able to change that person. But we can direct their anger. If they want to be enraged at someone, let them be angry at Satan. Let them go to war with Satan. Let them rage at everything he is doing. Let them lash out at everything he stands for.

So think about the people you know who are extremely angry at the church or at God. Tell them that Christians must be spiritual warriors and they could become a Christian soldier of the Lord.

Some people just cannot get rid of anger in their life. They may mellow in their old age, but that mellowness is a long way off. Show them how much Satan is enraged at them and how much God loves them. Show them how get on God’s side, enroll in the army of the Lord, and use their anger against Satan.

Does it work? Paul said in 1st Timothy 1:13, “I was a violent man.” Yet, he converted people all over southern Europe, as he “fought the good fight”
