OOPS OF THE DAY ~ January 11

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

The woman who had been bleeding for 12 years touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was healed.

Matthew 9 – Deuteronomy 22:12-30  –  Numbers 17:8  – Malachi 4:2

Fact of the Day

No!  The word translated as “hem”  in both the Greek of the N.T. and in the Hebrew of the O.T. is  fringe. Actually, in the Old Testament, this word is usually translated fringe.  For example, God commanded they put fringe on the four corners of their garments – tsitsith. But sometimes it is also translated the wings of their garments.

However the root word is tsiyts, meaning a fruit-bearing blossom such as when Aaron’s rod blossomed and then brought forth fruit (almonds).

So, the woman who had been bleeding for 12 weakening years managed to at least touch the “blossom” (in its pre-fruit state) on one of the four “wings” of Jesus’ garment. She was healed by the life-giving blossom; it brought forth the fruit of her healing.
