Scripture for Saturday, May 27 (5/27)

The scripture for today, May 27 (5/27), is Job 5:27 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

changes-in-worship-cover-medium“We have examined this, and it is true. So hear it and apply it to yourself.”

How many times have we gone to worship or listened on TV to a minister/priest/rabbi/imam and believed everything he said because the speaker looked so holy and convincing? Isn’t that confusing when so many different religious leaders teach different things, often conflicting?

What is the answer to this dilemma? Examine the Bible for yourself! You’re smart! You can do it!

The best way is to get a concordance. It has every word in the Bible alphabetically, and every scripture that contains that word. If you want to know God’s opinion instead of man’s, use your concordance and look up every passage your chosen topic appears in. You can buy one (it is the size of an unabridged dictionary), or use one on the internet.

Then examine everything God ~ not man ~ has to say about anything. Then there are no doubts. Then you know the truth and are ready to apply it to yourself.

Scripture for Friday, May 19 (5/19)

The scripture for today, May 19 (5/19), is Ephesians 5:19 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

Oldoldstory-COVER-KINDLE“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.”

What is so interesting about this scripture is how we are to make music to the Lord. In the original Greek the New Testament of the Bible was written in, the term “make music” means to play on strings. But put with the rest of the verse, we see that it means to play on the strings of our heart.

How beautiful! In God’s ears, the strings of our heart are far superior to any musical instrument we can contrive. So, why would we want to use them as a substitute? Shall we not please the One we are worshiping? Let us be attuned, not to what we love, but to what God loves.

And so, let us sing! And in the process, let our singing by accompanied by the beautiful strings of our worshiping heart.

Sing on, everyone.  Sing on.

Scripture for Sunday, May 14 (5/14)

00-PAUL COVER-Medium-The scripture for today, May 14(5/14), is 2nd Corinthians 5:14a as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“For Christ’s love compels us….”

Jesus died both physically and spiritually in our place! (Remember when he said God had forsaken him?) He knew we couldn’t come back from either one on our own, so he did it for us. Such terrible things he went through for us!

Love is powerful! It causes us to do things for someone we love that we never wanted to do and never dreamed we could do.

How powerful is your love for Christ? Do you share the love of Christ with others? 1st John 4:18 says, “Perfect love casts out fear.”

You must reach out to people who think Jesus will ruin their fun, or has too many rules, or could never forgive them, or wouldn’t stop a tragedy from happening to them. If not in person, tell them in a note, a phone call, email, even a song. There are ways. Reach out.

You can and you will, for Christ’s love compels you!

Scripture for Saturday, May 13 (5/13)

The scripture for today, May 13(5/13), is 1st John 5:13f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-BK 8-ComeFlyWithMe-Cover-Medium-New“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: That if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

What a wonderful and comforting promise: The God of the universe, the Creator, the King of all kings hears you!

Of course, it must be “according to his will.” Well, how are you supposed to know God’s will? By a feeling deep in your heart? Feelings are fickle. But can there be another way? Of course. It’s simple. Just read his very words to you in the Bible.

The Bible is full of examples of people who did right and who did wrong, to help you see the consequences of good and bad decisions. The Bible is also full of God’s advice to you. Proverbs is one of the books that is full of such advice. Read the Bible. You do not have to guess what God’s will is.

What about asking God’s will whether you should move to this place or that, whether you marry this person or that, whether you take this job or that? Perhaps all your choices are good. God has also given you free will. Always remember, no matter what you choose, “ALL things work together for good to those who love the Lord and called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Scripture for Thursday, May 4 (5/4)

The scripture for today, May 4 (5/4), is 1st Peter 5:4 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”

The word “shepherd” here is the same as elder, pastor or presbyter. Many denominations appoint someone to be the head of their religion at their world headquarters. He goes by different titles ~ bishop, high priest, father, papa, president. Their headquarters may be a small office or an entire complex. From here the head meets regularly with others to make decisions for their denomination.

Here is a unique thought: Let us set this system aside and let Jesus be the only head, and let the world headquarters be in heaven! We do not have to rely on the decisions of men, but on the decisions of God the Son who loved us so much that he became human for awhile so he could die for us. We don’t even need a creed, because if it is less than the Bible it isn’t enough, if it is more than the Bible it is too much, and if it is the same as the Bible why have it?

No more divisiveness. No more denominationalism. Just one united church of Christ with its divine founder as our sole leader, and his divine words as our sole creed. This will never fade away. How sublime the thought!

Scripture for Tuesday, May 2 (5/2)

The scripture for today, May 2 (5/2), is Micah 5:2 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0000-BK 1-StarSong-Cover-new-Medium“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

This amazing scripture prophecies where the “ruler…from ancient times” will be born. It gives the exact city Jesus (who had been in heaven before his human birth) would be born in, written seven centuries before his birth.

The Bible is the only religious book in the world with built-in proofs that it is of divine origin. Prophecies of many events in the life of Christ flow throughout the Old Testament. He wasn’t just a prophet, he wasn’t just a good man, he wasn’t a fraud.

Thank God, He thought of everything to help us believe Jesus was, indeed, the Son of God!

Scripture for Monday, May 1 (5/1)

The scripture for today, May 1, is Romans 5:1 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-Luke-Slave&Physician KINDLE Cover“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Of course, if we do not have faith in Jesus, we will not obey any of his commands. He said in John 15:14, “You are my friends IF you do what I command.”

Some people say we are not saved by works, and this is true in the sense that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and the wages we earn for sinning is soul death (Romans 6:23).

But faith does lead to works. In fact, Jesus himself said that faith/belief itself is a work (John 6:29). And James 2:18 says we prove our faith by works.

Yes, it is a beautiful thing that we are saved by the Grace of God and the Death of Jesus. That was their part. Our part is to believe it, accept it, and actively follow it.

That, too, is beautiful.

Scripture for Saturday, April 29 (4/29)

The scripture for today, April 29, is  Deuteronomy 4:29  as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

Bible Puzzles for Young And Old-Cover“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

God is always nearby, but we do not always acknowledge it. He will not force himself on us. So he waits.

There is an old expression, “To know him is to love him.” This is true also of God. God is talking to you in his Bible, explaining what he is like and how he reacts to every possible situation in life. Seek him there. He is telling you some interesting things there.

The conversation turns the other way when we talk to him in response to what we have read, or what we are trying to apply to our lives or our concern for others.

This mutual conversation with God is the with-all-your-heart-and-soul kind.

And it is good.

Scripture for Friday, April 28 (4/28)

The scripture for today, April 28, is Mark 4:28 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-Stephen-Cover-Kindle-Medium“All by itself, the soil produces grain ~ first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.”

Jesus was explaining that the kingdom of heaven is like a seed planted in the ground. It grows almost miraculously.

The church is, indeed, like this. Planted some 2000 years ago, it has survived through every adversity and attack contrived by man. Sometimes the attacks were even from within. But at such times, just when it looked as though it was going to die, just like a seed dying in the earth, it would begin to sprout and grow up stronger than ever.

A little seed turning into a stalk is miraculous and amazing. The survival of the church for some 2000 years is even more miraculous and amazing.

God is still on his throne, and all is well.

Scripture for Thursday, April 27 (4/27)

The scripture for today, April 27 (4/27) Acts 4:27b as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

REV-Cover-Kindle“…your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.”

In this prayer of early Christians, they acknowledged that God had anointed Jesus and no one else. What does anointing mean? In the Old Testament, men were anointed to become the high priest or the king.

Aaron was the very first high priest (Leviticus 6:20,22) and his son [and descendants] who succeeded him as high priest was also anointed. Saul was the very first king of the Jews (I Samuel 15:1) and he and all succeeding kings were anointed. This was a form of coronation.

And so when God anointed Jesus, he made him both high priest and king. Hebrews 4:14 says, “we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God.” And in Mark 15:2, Jesus acknowledged that he was King.

And so we worship the anointed one.
