Like rays of the morning sun

Oh, God, you never stop watching me. You never sleep in order to make it possible for me to sleep. You never close your eyes in order to make it possible for me to close mine. You never rest in order to make it possible for me to rest. You look for me when I lose sight of you. You yearn for me when I lose hope. You have faith in me when I lose faith in you. You are so strong and mighty. My strength is from you, in you, and for you.

I thank and praise you for you have been so good to me. So many people in the world are not nearly as blessed as I ~ lives full of turmoil and terror, or confined where they do not wish to be, and so many other horrible situations. I live in peace. May I never take advantage of that peace to throw it away on the selfishness of a leech. Ah, the responsibilities you have put on me to protect this peace, not only among people but between people and you. I will rise up each morning of my peace and draw people to you like the rays of the morning sun. You are the morning star. I thank you. I worship you.

Make God smile

The scripture for today, April 30 (4/30), is Ephesians 4:30f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.”

Do you think God has no choice but to let you into his heaven because you do not steal, cheat, or murder? Think again.

There’s more to it than that; it’s called sins of attitude. Are you bitter about something? Let it go, or it will take you to hell. Do you have a problem with rage and anger? Do you enjoy a good mental or physical brawl? Do you slander people who have done you wrong? Do you harbor grudges year after year over people who were treated better than you? Let go of them. Please. They are taking you to hell.

The average person does not have trouble with bad actions. The big problem is with bad attitudes. Let go of them. God will take care of the problems. Let go of people you consider your enemies and wish them well. Do not grieve God. He does not deserve it.

Live in sweet inner peace. Live at peace with God. Make God smile.

A child’s cooing praises you. A lion’s roaring praises you. An ocean rising and falling praises you. Rainbows and snow tops and diamonds in sparkling waters praise you. Everything I see, sound I hear, everything I touch are full of praises for you. You are everywhere and you, my God, are my soul. With exhilaration, I worship you.

Ah, my Lord, how I long to see you as you are. Life here is too long. I know I must do my share in conquering Satan and making him weaker all the time. But, when my work is done, I get to be in your realm and exchange smiles with you. What a day it will be. A glorious day when I, your bride, will be united with you forever.

The scripture for today, April 21 (4/21), is Mark 4:21 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?”

Jesus said something similar in Matthew 5:14f, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Light? I have a light? Oh, I forgot. Besides, it’s just one little flame.

Little? Little? In a world of darkness, one little flame is all they need to give them hope and lead them toward a larger light.

Do you spend your energy on yourself and family? That is good. Your family needs your light. But try going farther. Look around. Your neighborhood, your school, your job, your club, your community.

Someone is in darkness and needs your light. Always keep looking around. Keep searching for little nooks and crannies in the lives of others where you can bring the light of a good deed to someone’s world.

Dare to spread light over them so they can know where they are going. They need Jesus’ precious light shining through you. Your light may be the only one some people will ever see.

Where is your light? Is it hidden? Can you find it? Do you know where you left it? Oh, there it is.

Powerful, magnificent and glorious

I magnify your name, Jehovah, God of the universe. The only God. The God who is just and yet merciful. The God who loves the unloving. The God who is sinless but has patience with sinners. Such love fills me with lofty gladness. You overlook what I do wrong and make it all good and right. You behold my puny efforts to make a difference in the world and make them multiply and expand and become beautiful. Such attention and love I cannot comprehend. So I worship you.

Ah, my Lord Jesus, thank you for leaving heaven for me and facing Satan in a human body on earth. He tried everything he could think of to make you sin just one time. That one time would have been all he needed to bring you down to his Sheol. But you were too strong for him, even in your human body’s weakest moments! You hovered over Satan and dared him. You brought Satan to his knees. You rose up powerful and magnificent and glorious. I was too weak to face down Satan. No one could. No one but you. So, you did. You did it for me. You took my place. How can I thank you enough? I will spend eternity finding new ways to show my deep gratitude.

You will be astounded

The scripture for today, April 12 (4/12), is Colossians 4:12 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“He is always wrestling in prayer for you.”

Do you have fast-food prayers? Drive in, ask for something for yourself, and drive out two minutes later?

How about trying gourmet prayers ~ where you gather many ingredients, not just one? They take longer but are very special and rewarding.

Your menu is your prayer list. People on your list don’t even have to be people you know personally. They can be from the newspaper, teachers at a local school, government officials, your neighbors, your congregation. List people by name. Pray for them by name.

Then tell these people you are praying for them. You may think you’ll get some strange looks, but mostly, even from the unreligious, you will get a smile and a whispered thank you. Some will actually reply, “No one has ever told me they were praying for me.” After a while, you will begin receiving word from people you are paying for, “Guess what? Your prayer worked.”

Prayer is powerful and wonderful. God loves to answer prayer. It is most wonderful when it centers, not on what you want for yourself, but on struggling in prayer for other people.

One by one, you will begin seeing amazing answers in the lives of those you pray for. Don’t believe it? Give it a try. You will be astounded.

Despise not small beginnings

The scripture for today, April 10 (4/10), is Zechariah 4:10 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“Who despises the day of small things?”

We tend to admire big things ~ big buildings, big empires, big trees, big causes. Sometimes it is difficult to remember that those things started out small.

Have you been wanting to accomplish something big? All buildings started out with one board or one stone. All empires started out with one person. All big trees started out as one seed. All big causes started out with one dream.

Perhaps your dream started out small but stayed small. That doesn’t mean it will always be small. It may become big years from now, or even in someone else’s lifetime. Don’t despise what you have now.

Have you been putting off trying to make your dream reality because it won’t be big, and people will laugh at you, and you will get depressed? Do not fear it. Have faith in it. Plant that small seed. Do not despise it. Embrace it. Nourish it.

Make today the day of your new beginning. Launch your dream. Soar with it, even if you’re the only one who does.

Shout for joy, all mountains. Sing with exhilaration, all stars. Declare it, all tongues, across seas far and wide: You, Lord, reign on earth and in heaven. You keep all things in order, rotating in their paths, blooming in their seasons, reproducing kind after kind. You are faithful and true and let nothing stop you. You are the ultimate in love, kindness, mercy, gentleness. At the same time, you are strength, potency, might. You never change. You stand for right in the face of Satan who convinces mankind rebellion is good, doing things for self is best, following what you declared wrong is true life. You alone are good. You alone offer true life, marvelous life, forever life.

Ah, my Lord, thank you for making me your bride. How anxious I am for us to be together at last. I think and dream of that day when you will close the door on my life here and open it on my life with you. Help those who love me here understand my new happiness when I go. Help them smile through their tears. You and I will be waiting for them to join us. Oh, happy day when my life will end here, for it will be the beginning of true life. To be the bride of the Creator lifts my heart and makes it soar through the universe to you.

just ordinary? Not so.

The scripture for today, March 29 (3/29), is Luke 3:29 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

.” ..the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi….”

Who in the world were these five men: Joshua, Eliezer, Jorim, Matthat, and Levi? Some were named after famous Jews, but no one in this list was famous himself. In fact, nothing else is said in the Bible about any of these men. They’re just a single name in a single but long list made in obscurity.

Who were they that they earned even one brief mention in the Bible?

They were ancestors of Joseph, the human “father” of Jesus. What else? They were born and survived long enough to have sons. Not important at the time? No, but eventually, it was.

We read obituaries and sometimes wonder about our own. Our whole life reduced to born, married, had a job, had children, died. That’s it. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just another one of billions in the world having come and gone.

Hold on! Maybe not!

Maybe your life, as ordinary as it seems now, will someday serve a greater purpose through your descendant or someone you become friends with. In a later generation ~ maybe ten or twenty generations from now ~ someone may do something extremely important for souls of the world. And it was made possible because of your “unordinary life” way back in the early twenty-first century when you survived one day at a time.

INTREPID MEN OF GOD. JOSEPH: THE OTHER FATHER. Imagine being told by God to guard His Son in a violent world until he is grown. How does Joseph choose a city in strange Egypt to hide 2-year-old Jesus from Herod’s spies? Does he dare take 4-year-old Jesus to the temple where now-dead Herod’s son slaughters thousands? How can Joseph protect Jesus with all the skirmishes and killing on roads everywhere with dozens vying to take over as king? How does Joseph handle the persecution in Nazareth by people who could count and knew Mary was pregnant before marrying Joseph? What does Joseph do with Jesus in Nazareth, just three miles from Sepphoris, hotbed of zealot protesters, when a Roman legate burns the city and crucifies 2000 more zealots in Jerusalem? In what ways does Joseph teach Jesus how to be a skilled carpenter in sometimes dangerous situations, and avoid being mauled in the mountains when they cut trees for lumber? Lead our young to relight the torch

The children, Lord. Make today’s children rebellious. Make them tell their “hippie” parents and grandparents, “No more. You do not want rules, but I do.” Lead this young generation to light the torch and carry it high so the world will see that Satan will not and cannot win. Help the teenagers of today do what they so naturally want to do. Help them rise up in rebellion against the immorality and lack of ethics that have raised their ugly heads in society. Help them find out who the only true God really is ~ not some high-minded imagination of people who make themselves gods by promising a religion full of emptiness. Help these teenagers light the torch that reveals you to the world of their grandparents, their parents, their peers, and the next generation. May you be magnified and glorified through this next generation.

Lord, forgive me when I become suspicious of people’s motives. Why do I do that? You are the only one who can read hearts. I try to give a dollar here and there to beggars on the street and never question how they will use it; I just tell them they need to go home. But other people I do question. It is not up to me. That is up to you. No matter who does what, make me assume their motives are good, encourage them, and put my mind at rest.

Thank you, Lord God, for loving everyone, even my enemies. You give me courage when I have no courage. You give me strength when I am weak. You give me love when I do not feel it. I am weak and sinful. Yet you love me and stay with me in your patience. I do not deserve you. I can only whisper over and over, thank you.
