I am kind of a world traveler. I have lived in Korea, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Tokyo, Canada, Afghanistan, India and USA. I remember when President Kennedy was assassinated, watched the first human walk on the moon, Alaska became a state, President Kennedy & Martin Luther King were shot, and the first human walked on the moon. I remember when the first Star Wars movie came out, 900 religiously misguided humans committed suicide in Guyana, when Microsoft was "invented" and the Ayatollah Khoumeini took over Iran, kicked out western companies (employers) and returned his country to the dark ages. I WAS THERE WHEN MOUNT SAINT HELENS BLEW. I remember when the Berlin Wall fell, the Internet was created, the first warm-blooded animal was cloned (a sheep) and the Hubble Telescope was launched - all in the 1980s. And you?

Where I can see forever

I praise you in the morning when the sun rises with glowing promise. I praise you at noon when everyone stops the bustle of the morning for a moment of respite and taking a deep breath. I praise you in the evening when all becomes quiet again and I rest once more, cozy in my bed knowing you are holding me in your protective arms during the darkness of the night. You are always there. And you make me feel as though I am the only person in the world. You are my dawn, my bright and shining sun, my moonglow.

Yesterday I was talking with some people who said they had met four friends while shopping. I was with them and said, “No, there were five friends.” Why did I do that? What difference did it make? All it did was fluster the person telling about it and confuse the people listening. I got them completely off the subject of chance meetings of friends and into an argument of how many friends we met. Lord, help me not say anything when it doesn’t matter.

Thank you, Lord, for the beauty of my surroundings. Sometimes I am where there are mountains with white snow on top. Sometimes I am in valleys where green trees abound and there is grass to walk on and tickle my toes. Sometimes I am in a wide desert where I can see forever and the sky seems so much larger. How delightful you have made the earth with all its variations teasing and tantalizing me as I travel around your creation like skipping through verses of poetry.

The pulse of the universe

Through the pulse of the universe praises rise to you, Lord God. All you created praise you. All material things. all good feelings, good knowledge, truth, love and life praise you. You made me in your image. May my efforts to remain like you be lifted up to your throne. And someday, you will bring me home with the same image in which you made me ~ pure and innocent. Your heaven is all that is right and good because they are reflections of you. What will heaven be like? With you in the midst of heaven, it will be like riding the waves of your spirit.

Forgive me, Lord, when I secretly find fault with others. Secrecy does not mean you do not know. Cleanse my mind and my heart. Most things in the world do not matter. This world is just temporary. Help me speak only of what matters.

Thank you for materializing and coming to earth to demonstrate right living. No one quite understood before you came. It really helped. We saw the laws you gave Moses were to help us and help each other, not interfere with a fulfilling life. So, you lived the law perfectly because it was a reflection of you. How often during the day did you stop and pray? How often during the day did you stop what you were doing so you could spend some time with an orphan? Did you carry around with you a bag of coins so you could drop something in the bowl of every beggar along the way? What was your everyday life like? I do not know all the details. What I do know is in the sacred writings of the Gospel everything you did was good. Everything! Thank you for showing us you.

Hold on while I lower than mountain for you

The scripture for today, March 6 (3/6), is Proverbs 3:6 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Is your life full of twists and turns, short cuts that never work out, detours, mountains to climb and valleys to make your way through? Welcome to the human race. Life on earth can be hard. Did you know the Bible calls Satan the god of this world (2^nd Corinthians 4:4) and ruler of this world (John 12:31)?

Your path to heaven is another matter. Your path to heaven is straight. God has done everything in his power to straighten your path and make it easier for you to reach him. How? By providing you with His Word to read any time you see trouble ahead (Psalm 119:105).

Do you see a mountain ahead of you so steep it is impossible to climb or valley so full of darkness you cannot bear the thought of entering it? Do you see a curve in the road ahead of you and dread knowing where it will lead you?

Colossians 1:13 says God can rescue you from Satan’s domain of darkness and transfer you to the kingdom of Jesus Christ. There God takes control. There God says, “Hold on a minute, Christian, while I lower that mountain, brighten that valley, straighten that curve.”

The path to heaven is even, bright, and straight. What path are you on?

REVELATION: A LOVE LETTER FROM GOD. Once you understand that Revelation is a history book, you sees how God punished his people’s enemies in the past and will do it again, Once you understand the symbolism of the numbers, you see the deep love and assurance that God keeps his promises. Soaring to the heavens

The scripture for today, March 5 (3/5), is Titus 3:5 in the New Testament of the Bible:

“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

God is perfectly good and cannot dwell with imperfection. How, then, could we ever live with him in his heaven? After all, as hard as we tried, we could not be perfect. Mankind was held hostage by Satan.

God loved us so much that he solved our dilemma. He sent his Son to live that perfect life that is impossible for us to live. Then, his perfect “Lamb of God” took our punishment for our sins by paying the ransom to get us out of the clutches of Satan.

Romans 3:23 says the earnings of sin is death ~ physical death (separation from this world) and spiritual death (separation from God). Jesus took it all for us. And that included being completely separated from God. At the worst of it, Jesus cried out to God, “Why have you FORSAKEN me?” That’s when Jesus died spiritually for a moment. It was we who deserved to be forsaken by God. And in that same moment, he faced down Satan and conquered.

Sin and its power now destroyed, God said if we go “through the washing of rebirth” we will be renewed by the Holy Spirit.

But how? God did not leave us guessing, for in Acts 22:16 Jesus told Paul, “Arise and be baptized and wash away your sins” and in Romans 6:4 he said through Paul, “We were therefore buried with him through baptism in order that…we too may live a new life [rebirth].” Then we could start over pure and washed.

Washing of rebirth is no more “water salvation” than the cross was “wood salvation.” Both were physical things that accomplished spiritual outcomes. God took care of the hard part. He gave us the easy part. And so, we worship him with unspeakable gratitude that soars to the heavens and fills God’s throne room.

Rise up and ride the waves!

The scripture for today, March 4 (3/4), is James 3:4 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“Take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.”

James, in this scripture, is talking about the tongue being a small thing, but it can get our entire lives into a lot of trouble. Once we say things, we cannot take them back.

What do you spend your day saying to people? You do have a choice. People do more good things than bad things. Do you respond to them with more good or more bad words? It is your choice.

When you compliment someone, they will take heart and try to do that good thing even more. When you berate someone, they will lose heart and probably do the bad thing again. Years ago, there was a saying, “You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.” Are your words honey or vinegar?

Jesus said out of our heart comes our words. If you normally say nice things to others, it shows you have a nice heart. If you normally say hard things to others, it shows you have a hard heart. Jesus also said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Don’t use your words to sink someone farther down.

Starting now, when you launch out into a new day, go out of your way to say small nice things to people. The rudder of your tongue may be small, but oh how powerful it is. You may even provide a rudder to help someone out of a private storm. Today, help someone stay on course and keep their face to the wind. Today, use your words to help someone rise from the depths and ride the waves.

Oh, Lord, sometimes I am giddy with excitement over you. Sometimes I want to walk with you, talk with you, laugh with you, cry with you. I want to run with you through meadows and lie on the grass and watch the clouds float by. When I am in a breeze, I wonder if you are whispering to me. Sometimes when I hear the flutter of wings overhead, I wonder if you are embracing me. You call me your child, then spoil me with your love. How I rejoice in you. My heart calls out to your heart. Even in the deepest gloom, I feel your presence. All that has been, is, and will be honor and praise you.

Thank you for March. The snow is beginning to melt. There are puddles everywhere and the lawns are soggy. How I rejoice when I see all this because I know it is a prelude to spring. How I love spring. Thank you for spring. Yes, and winter. Winter when the world goes inside and rests. When I have more quiet time, family time, and reflecting time. Winter is good. But now I am ready for Spring. Your seasons. How delightful they are. And always on time. Your promises are like that ~ always on time. Thank you for the unique beauty and benefits of each season. You thought of everything.

The stars praise you by night, the sun declares your glory by day. They sparkle with the romance of the ages in their own way. Even raging storms declare your power, butterflies declare your gentleness, grass coming back to life each spring declares your mercy. You make, then you remake. You create and recreate. You raise up, cheer up, climb up, clean up. You love without boundaries. Your mercy is limitless. Your life without end.

I was discouraged the other day and dragged my family down with me. I could have excused myself and gone for a walk or into a room alone. I could have written them a love note asking for their patience while I rebuild. I did not. I snapped at them because I felt so bad inside. It was probably just some chemical thing in my body, but I did not know how to change it. Do you think it would help to write some love notes to my family and put them away for the next time it happens?

Thank you, Jesus, for all you did for me. I couldn’t do it. I still cannot be perfect. No matter how hard I try, I fail. So, you did it for me and for everyone. You were perfect for us. Then you took the blame for our imperfections along with our punishment. The world hated you because you were perfect and we were not. Jesus, you did so much. I cannot begin to comprehend it all. But I can spend eternity thanking you with my heart, my spirit, my soul.

A CHILD’S BIBLE KIDS: NAAMAN’S MAID was grabbed from her parents’ yard when the soldiers came. They took her far away, but she never forgot her family or friends. And old Elisha who had performed a miracle for the widow lady living next door. When her master began to look like a monster, she could have been happy her master was sick. The scripture for today, March 1 (3/1), is 1st Thessalonians 3:1,5 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“So, when we could stand it no longer, we thought it best to be left by ourselves in Athens….For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way the tempter might have tempted you and our efforts might have been useless.”

In Thessalonica, there had been a riot, and the man who had given Paul and his helpers a place to live was hauled into court. Paul just couldn’t put his host through that, so “when we could stand it no longer,” he left the city and went off by himself so he wouldn’t jeopardize anyone else.

Still the great Apostle Paul ~ who went everywhere preaching non-stop for decades; who stood up under beatings, stonings, hunger, and shipwrecks; who explained to church leaders how to lead their congregation; whose letters were prophecy and became scripture ~ the powerful Apostle Paul still felt very tenderly toward his fellow Christians.

He worried about how they were getting along spiritually. And when he “could stand it no longer,” he wrote back to Thessalonica to find out how they were doing.

Do you feel this way about the spiritual well-being of other people? Is there someone you need to call or write to today because you want to find out how they are? Do you have any words of encouragement for them? Any at all?

Tender love is a powerful love. A strong love. A love that will never, ever let go.

Teach my eyes to see it all.

My very being praises you. My every breath, my every heartbeat, every blink of my eye praises you. The mighty mountains and roaring seas praise you. The eagles flying high and soaring on the wings of the wind praise you. The fish great and small that thrive somewhere in the deep waters praise you. The unborn children still snug in their mother’s womb praise you. The stars dancing through galaxies around the orb of the universe praise you. Touch and sound, motion and stillness praise you. On ethereal wings, all things praise you.

Lord, I was in a hurry and I went way over the speed limit. Most people would call such guilt silly, but I feel it. I endangered others by going a speed the engineers consider dangerous. I didn’t listen. I paid no heed. I should have left home early enough. I didn’t. I endangered people because I was not prepared enough and was running late. And the place I was rushing to was not worth anyone’s life. What if I had hit someone and caused them all kinds of inconveniences in their life? Worse, what if I had killed someone. I am so sorry. But thank you for protecting everyone I drove near.

Ah, thank you, my Lord for color. How delightful color is. People who have been blind all their lives do not comprehend color. That just reminds me of what is in store in your world. What will heaven be like? I can only imagine. And for sound. Thank you for the sound of music, whether it be on the lips of a chorus, a child, a song bird, or the wind dancing among the leaves of a tree. How much fun it must have been for you to create the world. A little dab of blue here, a little dab of red there. A whisper of a song, the enchantment of a bubbling creek. Teach my eyes to see it all.

A CHILD’S BIBLE HEROES: ADAM AND EVE. How much fun God had in creating the world with splashes of color here and there and everywhere. And scents of flowers and fruit wafting through the breeze. Then there were Adam and Eve — his crowning achievement. They lived up to his expectations for probably a hundred years. The scripture for today, February 27 (2/27), is Jeremiah 2:27 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“ ‘Why do you bring charges against me? You have all rebelled against me,’ declares the Lord.”

Do you want God to make it impossible for someone to insult or lie or cuss at you? Do you want God to make it impossible for someone to fire you? Do you want God to make it impossible to kill you? Do you want to stop free will? If that were the case, we would all be robots with no will of our own.

More and more people are blaming God for bad things happening in their life. That is their excuse for rebelling against God and declaring he does not even exist. Their view of God is a Santa Claus or Genie in a Bottle who grants their every wish and keeps them from all harm. No one ever dies, no one ever sins, and it is heaven on earth.

What they want is for God to stop his laws of Nature whenever you want. If someone throws a knife at them, it suddenly turns to gelatin. If someone’s car is about to slam into them and kill someone, they want that car to suddenly be made out of feathers.

Other people sometimes blame God for bad things happening in their life because blaming is one of the ways they handle their grief. They don’t really want to blame God because they want to think God loves them. But there is no one else to blame.

No one else to blame? Oh, yes, there is. There is Satan. We tend to forget Satan is out there too. It is Satan who causes bad to happen, not God.

Is that what you’ve done lately ~ blame God for bad happening, then rebel against him? Or do you know someone who is going through many problems, not of their doing or choosing? Are they blaming God and rebelling against him? Help them. Remind them of Satan.

People want to blame someone. They will be relieved to be reminded that Satan exists. Now they can put the blame where it belongs.

Let us not blame God for the bad. Instead, let us thank Him for the good. And for hard things in our life so we can build our spiritual muscles. How can we have Victory in Jesus unless we have something to be victorious over? How can we be More than Conquerors unless we have something to conquer? Are we cowards? Do we run from hard work and exercise?

Look up! God knows what he is doing. He wants you to become a good person, a great person, a mighty person. But you must do it his way. He’s our father and Father knows best.
