Oops of the Day

Satan declared himself  the God.

Ezekiel 28:1-10

Fact of the Day

No!  The passage in Ezekiel refers to a MAN.  Satan is never called a man.  Also, this person DIES.  Satan never dies.  Nearly all kings in ancient times declared they were God or a god…

…including the Pharaoh of Egypt, the King of Assyria, the King of Babylon, the King of Persia, the King of Greece, and the Roman Caesars.  Here are a few more:

  • Aram-Sin  2255–2119 BC       Mesopotamia/Babylonia
  • Shulgi       2037–2028 BC      Mesopotamia/Babylonia

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

The name of the devil is Lucifer.

Isaiah 14:12a –  Revelation 22:16

Fact of the Day

No!  Lucifer is Latin for the Hebrew word meaning “light bearer”, sometimes also called “morning star”.

If the name,  Lucifer, is Satan’s name, then the Bible said Jesus was Satan in Revelation 22:16.

Actually, there were two Catholic bishops by the name of Lucifer – “light bearer”.

  • In 270, Lucifer of Cagliari was made a  bishop.
  • In 306, Lucifer of Siena was made a bishop.

In 382, Jerome, a Catholic priest, was hired by the pope to translate the Bible from Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, into Latin.   Jerome capitalized the noun “light bearer”  and turned it into a proper name – Lucifer – in Isaiah 14:12.  But…

  • Tertullian (AD 160-225) never called Satan Lucifer & never said he fell..
  • Augustine of Hippo (354-430) never called Satan Lucifer and never said he fell.
  • Martin Luther (1483-1546) wrote that it was a “gross error” to claim Isaiah 14:12 referfed to Satan.
  • John Calvin (1509-1564) wrote that using Isaiah 14:12 to prove Satan’s name was Lucifer “arose from ignorance”

Regardless, in 1611, the King James Version failed to translate the Latin word, lucifer, into English, but kept the word untranslated, thus “officially” leading readers to believe Satan’s name was Lucifer.

The popularity of using this scripture to declare Satan’s name as Lucifer seems to have grown during  medieval literature, intermingling European folklore with Jerome’s Lucifer.

  • Around 1000, Beowulf and Lucifer intermingle as the same person.
  • In 1540, Faust referred to Satan as Lucifer.
  • In 1667 John Milton, in his Paradise Lost, named Satan Lucifer.

Also, during the Middle ages, in Islam, Lucifer was an archangel assisted by the Jinn Iblis who had rebelled against Allah.

Surprise of the Day

Who Made God?

Isaiah 9:6-7

Fact of the Day

The prophet Isaiah, while predicting that the Word would take on flesh and dwell on earth, explained God this way:

  • For to us a CHILD is born,
        to us a
  • SON is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
    And he will be called
        Wonderful Counselor,
  • Mighty GOD,
        Everlasting FATHER,
  • Prince of Peace.

Did you catch that? The Son will be the Father will be the Son and be God eternal.  And that, my friends, is who made God!

Oops of the Day

A book written by Solomon is pornographic and should not be in the Bible.

Song of Solomon

Fact of the Day

No!  It does belong in the Bible, and we have neglected it far too long.  I have written an updated  1611 King James Version of Song of Solomon in modern English with nearly 500 footnotes comparing Solomon’s love for his bride with Jesus’ love for his bride, the church.  Because they seemed to always be losing each other, I just began each of those chapters  as letters thusly:   “My Precious Ecclesia” or “My Dearest Lord Jesus,” and ended them with, “Your devoted Lord Jesus” or  “Forever yours, Ecclesia.” The title of my book is LOVE LETTERS OF JESUS AND HIS BRIDE, ECCLESIA.  Each chapter is a letter.  Check it out here:  https://bit.ly/47nbuXj under the Scripture Text Category.

Oops of the Day

Satan was thrown down from heaven once for all time.

Isaiah 14:12b  –  Job 1:6-7  –  Zechariah 32:1-3  –  Luke 10:17  –  Revelation 12:9-11

Fact of the Day

No! Satan periodically goes to heaven.  See Job.  See Zechariah.  Check out where Jesus was watching (present tense) Satan fall from heaven as the 72 were preaching. Finally, look at Revelation, where Satan was thrown down to earth. When?  At the time of Jesus’ crucifixion.  “And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb.”

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible...and a few surprises

Oops of the Day

The ten tribes that made up the Northern Kingdom called Israel were all captured and taken to Assyria forever.  They became known as the “Ten Lost Tribes of Israel”.

II Kings 17:21-23  –  II Chronicles 30:1,6, 10-11

Fact of the Day

No!  The term “Ten Lost Tribes of Israel” is not in the Bible. Nor is it a fact by insinuation.  When King Hezekiah of the Southern Kingdom restored the Passover decades after the Assyrian invasion, he sent couriers to the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, Zebulun, and Asher – all part of the former northern kingdom.

QUESTION OF THE DAY ~ October 31

Things in the Bible not really in the Bible...and a few surprises

Question of the Day

When the Syrian/Aramaean army surrounded a city to destroy it, Elisha saw chariots of fire covering the mountain to defend them.

II Kings 6:8 – II Kings 6:14-17  –  II Kings 2:11

Fact of the Day

All we know is that Elijah, who had mentored Elisha, had just gone to heaven in a chariot of fire.  So, that is a curiosity.  Were the chariots of fire defending that city led by Elijah in his chariot of fire?  Hmmm…
