Surprise of the Day  

By the end of Jesus’ first year, the religious leaders were so jealous of him, the Bible says eight different times they kept trying to kill him…

Not counting the king’s failed attempt when he was a baby.

Matthew 12:14  –  Matthew 26:4  –  Mark 14:1  –  Luke 22:2  –  John 7:1-2  –  John 7:19-25, 30, 44  –  John 8:59  –  John 10:31 & 39  –  John 11:53;

Fact of the Day

For 2-1/2 years the religious leaders tried to kill Jesus.

1. Right after he healed on the Sabbath
2. Right after he fed 5000 miraculously
3. Right after he called himself the Bread of Life
4. Right after he told the religious leaders they were sons of Satan
5. Right after he told the religious leaders he could grant eternal life
6. Right after he brought Lazarus back to life
7. Right after his triumphal entry into Jerusalem as their king
8. Just before the 3^rd Passover during Jesus’s ministry.

How they hated their creator.

Oops of the Day  

Palm branches were always waved to celebrate Passover, so that’s what people waved when Jesus entered Jerusalem as their king.

Matthew 21:7-10  –  Leviticus 23:39-43

Fact of the Day

No! Palm branches were part of the Feast of Booths which was an extension of the Day of Atonement – the Day of SALVATION.  Passover was in the 1st month (spring), Feast of Booths in the 7^th month (autumn). So the people declared him their SAVIOR symbolically with the palm branches and would have no matter what part of the year it was.

When Jesus returns, the first thing he will do is send the angels out to gather up people of the world to be punished

Matthew 13:24-30 & 36-43

Fact of the Day

No! The parable where good wheat is planted, then an enemy plants weeds among it during the night is about hypocrites. Notice, verse 41 says the angels will gather “out of the kingdom” (out of the church) those who cause others to stumble and are vulgar and pornographic and will punish them all.

When Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem, it was showing his humility.

Fact of the Day

No! Donkeys were the ride of kings!

• Judge Deborah sang, “My heart is with Israel’s princes….you who ride on white donkeys.”
• Supreme Judge Jair led Israel 22 years and had 30 sons who rode 30 donkeys.
• Supreme Judge Abdon, who ruled Israel 8 years, had 70 sons and grandsons who rode on 70 donkeys.
• Absalom, King David’s son, rode on a mule.
• David ordained that his son, Solomon, ride on his own mule through the streets as  proof that he chose Solomon to be the next king.

Jesus was king on the donkey, but humble by riding on the colt of a donkey.

Oops of the Day  

Jesus gave the apostles the power to forgive sins and their decision was accepted in heaven.

Fact of the Day

No!  In the original Greek of the New Testament of the Bible, the FUTURE TENSE term “will be” was actually “have been”.  The word “will” was not there.  What Jesus said was PAST TENSE – that whatever sins the apostles declare forgiven have already been forgiven in heaven. 

Oops of the Day  

• Jesus gave Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven so he could forgive sins.
• Then he preached the first sermon in Jerusalem to start the church.
• Then he went to Rome and became the first pope and people bowed down to him.

Fact of the Day

No! 

1-Jesus gave those binding keys to all the apostles.

2-All the apostles preached in the twelve languages of the crowd on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem.

3-When a someone bowed down to Peter, he made him stand up because “I am just a man like you”. 

4-Even in Peter’s second letter where he said he was about to die, he only identified himself as an indentured servant and apostle, but never as pope. 

5-And, by the way, Peter was married, not celibate

When Jesus healed the maimed, they just had a hard time walking.

Matthew 15:30

Fact of the Day

No!  “Maimed” comes from a Greek word meaning crippled in any way such as by amputation.  Jesus & his apostles could make arms and legs grow back!

Surprise of the Day  

You know Jesus walked on water.  But do you have any idea how far he walked on water?

Fact of the Day

When Jesus walked on water to get to his twelve in the middle of the Sea of Galilee, he arrived about 3:00 AM.  They had already been struggling to survive during that frightful storm for eight hours.   Jesus walked 3-1/2 miles from shore on the water to get to his frightened, exhausted apostles.  Oh, and the second he stepped foot into the boat, the storm stopped.  Instantly.

Surprise of the Day  

Jesus, taking on the flesh of a human, became depressed sometimes.  He was depressed in the Garden of Gethsemane, trying to get out of being crucified.   There were other times he was depressed also.

Fact of the Day

1-When Jesus heard about cousin John the Baptist being beheaded, he tried to go someplace to be alone.

2-People were crowding in on him so much, he couldn’t eat. So his family came to rescue him. Then he got in a boat and went to a secluded place.

3-After telling his 12 he was going to be killed soon, he was transfigured while praying. Moses and Elijah appeared to him and they spoke about his death.

4-He fed 5000 miraculously, and the next day he told them they just wanted him to feed them. So he said he was the bread of life; many stopped following him. Then he asked his 12, “Do you want to leave me too?”

Blaspheming the Holy Spirit (unpardonable sin) is….

1. attributing the work of God’s spirit to demonic forces,

2. resisting the power of the Holy Spirit,

3. doubting God’s good intentions,

4. burning a religious document,

5. damaging a church,

6. etc.

Fact of the Day

 No!  Too limited.  Jesus said he was going to send the “Spirit of Truth” after he returned to heaven.  Later he explained “God’s Word is truth.”  Therefore, blaspheming the Holy Spirit is not believing the Word of God.  Therefore, your life will reflect it.
