Oops of the Day

God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son to him BECAUSE he wanted to check on Abraham’s faith and find out how strong it was.

Genesis 22:12

Fact of the Day  

No!  God knows everything!  Test also means to exercise, put pressure on – such as lifting weights to build muscle.  He wanted to help Abraham’s amazing faith grow even stronger.  How do I know?

Where God says, “Now I know,” the word now is not in the original Hebrew. Now is not necessary any more than it would be necessary to say, “Now I know why I gave you that name,” or  “Now I know we ate dinner together yesterday.”  These things you already know, so “now” is not necessary.

In Genesis 22:12, the sentence begins with the Hebrew term KI , which literally means “burning, branding” and is translated “know”.   The word is translated in Isaiah 3:24 as branding.

What God was basically saying was, “I knew all along your faith burns deep in your heart!   Now you know it!”   It was a way of saying with great pride for someone else, “Atta boy!”      

And in the process,  Abraham’s  amazing faith  grew  even  stronger.

Surprise of the Day

During the early cenuries of mankind, they lived often to be 800 or 900 years of age.  

Then God changed all that.  He said eventually, the average age of  man would be reduced to 120 years.

Genesis 6:3

Fact of the Day  

Why?  How?  Perhaps, if we had a constant cloud covering like Venus – a thick ozone layer – before the flood, UV rays would not be able to get through as easily. After the clouds were broken up for the first rain, the ozone layer would not be as strong. Whatever the reason, what God declared happened:

Noah lived to be 950.  Now, notice how the ages of people born after the flood gradually declined beginning with Noah’s son Shem who lived mostly after the flood.

Oops of the Day

Fact of the Day 

No!  After the flood, God told Noah that he would put the terror of humans in all animals and that they could now eat the meat of animals.  Look it up.

Oops of the Day

It was no big deal about rain when Noah began to build his ark!

Genesis 1:5-6 – Genesis 6:17 – Genesis 7:11 & 24 – Genesis 8:2 – Genesis 9:13

Fact of the Day 

No!  It had never rained before.  The ground sent up a mist to water the plants.  In fact, God did not tell Noah about rain until it was about to rain!  All he told Noah to get him to start building the ark was that there was going to be a big flood. 

Finally, when the flood began…

• All the springs of the great deep were OPENED and burst forth
•  the floodgates of the heavens were OPENED. 
• And RAIN FELL on the earth forty days and forty nights

Then, when the earth was flooded enough…

• The springs of the deep  were CLOSED
• and the floodgates of the heavens were CLOSED
• BUT the rain STOPPED falling from the sky.

Yes, everything was closed except rain.  God made it stop, but he did not close up the possibility of future rains.

According to Genesis, earth must have had a constant cloud covering that made possible a mist to come up and water the ground. But somehow, God opened up those clouds during Noah’s flood and made rain possible.  And, for the first time, man could look up into the sky and see a RAINBOW.

When Jesus came to earth, he emptied himself of his divinity.

Fact of the Day 

He was in the form of God and then emptied himself into the form of a human – divinity and all.  He was limited to a human body, but he could still do divine things.  When he healed the maimed (the crippled for all reasons including missing legs), he could make them grow back – creating them.  He could still read minds.  He could still command the winds which he made, and walk on water which he also made.   He could merge with the molecules of a wall and walk “through the wall”.  He saw people “long distance”.  Shall we go on?  And on?  And on?

Oh, and one more thing.  After his ascension, he filled the universe.  Why?  Because God is everywhere.

Fact of the Day 

You did well to want to pluck strings as you sing to the Lord.  But God gave us a better instrument to play on.  It’s the one he wants.  Which one?

Well, we are to “sing and MAKE MELODY” in our hearts.  But that translation is vague.  In the original Greek of the Bible, it says, “sing and pluck on the strings of…”

“Yes, yes!  I knew I was right.  Tell me the strings of which instrument and I’ll do it.  Anything for the Lord I love.”

The Greek says “sing and pluck the strings of  YOUR HEART!”

“Does that mean I’m going to have to ditch my guitar and piano?”
