Unrealized Blessings

OldOldTunes-mediumMy life, Lord, is like a small boat on a vast ocean. I cannot walk on anything solid, but your heaven has streets of gold.  I cannot see anything beyond the vast waters of time, but you can see the future.  When waves of verbal and physical attacks threaten, you steady me and say, “Peace!  Be still.”  I cannot tell what is lurking below me, ready to swallow me up, but you surround me with an impenetrable shell.  I am thirsty, but you give me the water of life. I am hungry and you give me the bread of life. My life is not my own because you are my guide, my protector, my defender. For all this and more, I praise you.

Thank you for the mentally handicapped, especially those who are adults. They are so trusting and smile so easily when they talk to me.  They have the innocence of a child while in an adult body. They are a wonderful reminder to me that I need to be more child-like in my attitudes.  I love talking to them and hearing their plans and dreams. Oh, to be that innocent again.  And loving. They love everyone and are happy to share their stories with anyone who will listen. Thank you for these special people you have sent the world. They are such a blessing.

Pleasing yourself

Pearls Cover-Palms-300dpi-MediumThe scripture for today, October 11 (10/11), is Psalm 10:11 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“He says to himself, ‘God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees.’ “

You believe in God in some form. And you believe that God knows what you do. But do you sometimes bury your beliefs in your subconscious mind so you can go around doing things you know are wrong? Do you believe you won’t get caught, and you can slide into heaven doing whatever you want?

In other words, do you justify your favorite sins? Do you justify your sins of attitude, such as jealousy, impatience, pride, short temper under the guise of an unhappy childhood, or getting what you deserve?  Do you justify your sins of omission ~ good things you should be doing but are not ~ under the excuse that you don’t have time? Do you justify questionable things you do by saying they’re “not so bad” or God is so good, he will forgive anything you do as long as you say you’re sorry each time?

Do you do as children do who cover their eyes so they cannot see anyone and think that, therefore, no one can see them?

God loves you more than you can ever imagine. He never forgets you. He sees and hears everything you do. The only things he does not approve of are things that will ultimately hurt you and which he calls sin.

Here’s a jewel for you.  Polish it, shine it up and put it on display: Pleasing your Creator is the ultimate form of pleasing yourself.

How many times?

I praise and adore you, Lord God of the unfathomable  universe. You are my 000-COVER-KINDLE-MediumKing, my Maker, my betrothed. All glory and majesty belong to you. This is your world and no one ese’s. You are willing to fight Satan and get him away from me because he is too strong for me.  I give in to him so often, especially with my attitudes and use of my time. But you run after me and snatch me away from him again and again and again. You never tire of returning me from unknown and unsuspected danger to the safety of your everlasting arms.  I do not comprehend such love. All I can do is praise and worship you every day from the depths of my heart and the heights of my spirit.

Thank you, Jesus, for loving me so much. You have been so good to me ~ far beyond what I deserve. I have salvation from Satan and peace of soul.  I have freedom from sin and fulness of life. When I think of so many people without you, without hope, without understanding, all wondering what this hard life is all about, my heart aches. How much more does your heart ache for them? Thank you for my time on earth when I can work along side you to seek and save the lost just as you did me those days long ago.

Tough Love

The scripture for today, October 10 (10/10), is Proverbs 10:10 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

04-Isaac&Jacob-KindleMedium“He who winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.”

Let’s talk  tough love.

How can eye winking be malicious? Let’s look further at Proverbs 6:12-14 ~ “A scoundrel and villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plans evil with deceit in his heart ~ he always stirs up dissension.”

Have you ever said something to someone, but turned to someone else in the room and winked as though to let the second person know you didn’t really mean what you just said? That made your words a lie.

You might have pre-arranged signals before a meeting, such as crossing your feet as a signal you do or don’t like what is being said. Or you may run your fingers over your hair, or tap three times on a table as a pre-arranged signal to someone else in the room. If you are saying one thing but signaling something else to your partner, then your words are lies.

Perhaps you think it is purely innocent and claim that everyone does it. But Revelation 21 says .” ..all liars…their place will be in the fiery lake.”

So, from now on, be truthful in everything you say in word and deed. It can be done. And it is liberating. Forgive me, Lord. I did not realize.

Love Letters

Love Letters of Jesus & his Bride, Eccelsia-THUMBNAILYou delighted so when you made me.  Ah, yes. You gave eyes for my body to see the beautiful earth you made for me, and eyes for my heart to see the beauty sometimes hidden deep in other people’s hearts.  You gave ears for my body to hear the songs of the birds, the brooks, the rustling leaves, and eyes for my soul to hear the songs sometimes hidden deep in other people’s souls. You gave a mind for my body so I can reason through the many happenings of life, and a mind for my spirit to reason through the many temptations of life sometimes hidden deep in other people’s spirits.  You made my body and the earth I live on as a parable to help me understand your world. You thought of everything. How I love and praise you for it.

Oh, glorious King Jesus. You reign over all who have been reborn with clean souls.  You search the hiding places of those who have escaped your protection thus far. You are so good to us.  Though you had to die to pay our ransom to Sin, Satan and Death, you never resented us for it or threw it up to us. Your love is strong and unrelenting. Your love is unstoppable and unbeatable. How can I thank you enough? I will spend eternity trying.

Sunday’s Prayer

I lift up my praises to you, Lord God. You use your supreme might and sovereign power for me as long as I love you, and and even past that. You 07-SHADOW-ChildsCartoonSmalluse it to discipline me and get me to return to you when I leave your side and tag along with Satan to do things that are “not so bad”. You work day and night, year after year for me. Every time I sin, you call me back. Every time I wander from you, like a mother bird, you catch me on your wings and bring me back home. Oh, that all people would adore you.

Yesterday while visiting a friend, I saw a beautiful crystal statue. I wanted one for my house. I asked her where it came from. I picked it up and felt its smoothness. Father, keep me from coveting what other people have. Material things do not really matter.

It is two hours past dawn on Sunday morning.  You have shown yourself alive for two hours now. Mary and the other women have seen you. John sees the empty tomb and must have declared to Peter, “He did it! He’s back!” while confused Peter wanders away to try to figure it out. But he did figure it out. So, did all your followers. And now I remember what Peter wrote later, “Though you have not seen him, you love him.” Yes, I do love you. I believe, after suffering that terrible death, rather than sulk and go back to heaven, you rejoiced and announced your presence back in this world with, “You’re free now, everyone. You’re free from Satan. Don’t stay with him, come to me.  I have prepared a special place for you in my world.”  Ah, my Lord. I will always thank you for what you did for me.

Noble magnificence

My God, whether my last days on earth be amid turmoil or peace, I will Rhoda Book Cover KINDLE-thumbnailpraise you. Whether my last days are from sickness or injury, I will praise you. Whether my last days are amid friends or enemies, whether they are in a hospital or a prison, whether I die from natural causes or am slain, I will praise you. Forever in this life and the life I will have with you on the other side, I will praise you.

Father, there are some children that would go to church with me if I asked them. They like me and I think their parents would let them go with me.  What am I waiting for? Why do I keep putting it off?  One of them could be a great missionary someday. One of them could be a doctor someday. One of them could be a preacher someday. Get Satan away from me and make me go see those children and ask them.

Ah, my Lord, in gratitude I fall before your throne. You made it possible for me to join you and live with you someday. Yes, I know you are with me now. But, when you give me a glorious body like Jesus’, I will be able to see you with new spiritual eyes.  Oh, to see you face to face. To behold your noble magnificence and divinity with my own eyes. It remains my heart’s desire and my spirit’s dream. Until then, my Lord, my soul will bow down to you and worship.

God lives under the bed

A few years back I read a little story about Kevin and I’d like to introduce you to him. Kevin is 30 years old and stands a little over six feet tall. But as a result of a long and difficult birth he reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a seven-year-old, and he always will. Kevin’s world is much simpler than yours and mine. To us, his life is monotonous as he is up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk the family cocker spaniel, return to eat his favorite macaroni-and-cheese for dinner, and later to bed. The only variation in the entire scheme is laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine like a mother with her newborn child.

Kevin does not seem dissatisfied. He lopes out to the bus every morning at 7:05, eager for a day of simple work. He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather the family dirty laundry for his next day’s laundry chores. Saturdays are his special day as his dad takes him to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes land and speculate on the destination of each passenger. This makes Kevin shout and clap his hands.

So goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips. He doesn’t know what it means to be discontent. His life is simple. He will never know the entanglements of wealth or power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be. His simple trust is so great that he knows no worry.

His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working. When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it. He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, and he does not leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax.

He is not obsessed with his work or the work of others. His heart is pure. He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologize instead of arguing. Kevin is free from pride and unconcerned with appearances, Kevin is not afraid to cry when he is hurt, angry or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God… unreservedly.

I envy Kevin. Kevin thinks God lives under his bed. At least that’s what he said one night. He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and said, ‘Are you there, God?’ ‘Where are you? Oh, I see. Under the bed….”
You see, to Kevin, God is easily found under his bed, in the closet, right beside him as he goes through life. Kevin knows nothing of theology, but Kevin has faith that rises above our mortal questions and doubts.
The question we must answer boils down to this: Is he the one with the handicap, or are we?

After all, we have all the fears, the pride, the doubts, the uncertainties that disable us and keep us from trusting God. When our Savior tells us not to worry about food or clothing, not to fear or doubt (cf. Matthew 6:25-34), we are the ones that seem to think our God doesn’t know what He is asking. When God tells us to love one another, we are the ones that argue and pout and claim we can’t or won’t do it.

One day, our Savior will come back for His people and take us home to be with His Father forever. Don’t you suspect that it will amaze us to really understand and appreciate just how close our God has really been to us all along? Will we realize then that God meant all those things He said about caring for us and being with us?

Almighty God, may we pray the simple prayers of a boy who believes you live under his bed. May we have the simplicity of trust in You and Your word to calmly believe and go forward in our lives each and every day!

Kicking and screaming

The scripture for today, October 5, (10/5) is 2nd Corinthians 10:5f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

00-PAUL COVER-Thumbnail-“Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. Now, these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.”

This is about the 40 years the Jews wandered in the wilderness between leaving their slavery in Egypt and beginning a nation for themselves. They had the mindsets of slaves. They did not know how to make decisions for themselves. One of those decisions was to leave the gods of Egypt and worship only the one true God.

It was easier to fall in line with what they were raised to believe. That had long been their comfort zone. They took the easy way out rather than follow the God who had proved the Egyptian gods were not gods at all. They would rather die than change. So they did. They died.

Do you take the easy way out? Do you stick with things you were raised to believe even though you have learned more of the Bible and see those old beliefs are not what God said?

Those early Jews did not listen to God. What about you? Today He is calling out to you in the scriptures. “Come to me. I want to save you. Please come.”

00-PAUL COVER-Thumbnail-PAUL: THE UNSTOPOPABLE.  Stubborn?  Indeed, stubborn.  Paul just wouldn’t listen to Jesus when he was alive, so Jesus had to “drag him kicking and screaming” to stop everything and listen to him.  Moses had done the same thing centuries earlier when he dragged Abraham’s great grandchildren out of Egypt kicking and screaming.  We humans are a stubborn lot.  To BUY NOW, click a book cover nor paste this:  https://bit.ly/UnstoppablePaul
