Scripture for Sunday, August 20 (8/20)

The scripture for today, August 20 (8/20), is Proverbs 8:20 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible.

inside-cover-medium“I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice.”

Interestingly, the original Hebrew of “way” is customary path, and the original Hebrew of “paths” is customary road.

If we had a house out in the country, it would have paths leading to and from it. These paths are taken in our day-to-day life without much thought. We live out our principles and moral standards pretty much the same every day on such paths. How about you? When the rains come, how well does your path hold up?

Unless we are hermits, our path eventually takes us onto a major road where we must make major judgments. Does your path equip you to make major judgments, right decisions when you reach the road? If it doesn’t, your life will constantly be bogged down in deep ruts you can’t get out of and jarred by the bumps all over the road that you cannot avoid.

Some people’s lives never get onto a decent smooth road because their judgments are seldom right.  They become emotionally involved and wish for an outcome that cannot possibly occur, so give up and stay in their rut. Or they make wrong decisions based on immediate gratification which keeps their life full of bumps and bruises.

What kind of road does your daily path take you to? Is your life in constant turmoil because you make bad choices?   Ask yourself, “What would Jesus do?”. After all, Jesus said, “I am the Way” (John 14:6). He is standing in that right and just road right now.  Do you hear him? He’s calling you.

Shhh.  Listen.  Do you hear him now?

Scripture for Friday, May 12 (5/12)

The scripture for today, May 12(5/12), is 1st Kings 5:12 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-Joseph-Cover-Kindle-Medium“The Lord gave Solomon wisdom, just as he had promised him.”

God makes a promise of wisdom to Christians today. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Amazing! God doesn’t sit around and tell certain people, “You really messed up. Your life is full of turmoil. Now you come to me expecting me to fix it for you.” No, God does not throw our faults in our face. It’s no use dwelling in the past; that is history. He is ready and willing to provide guidance for the present and future, the now and later.

How do we know God’s wisdom? We surely do not have to guess. He has everything he wants us to know in his word, the Bible ~ examples of people who did and did not mess up their lives, and words of advice. All we have to do is open it, and ask God to help us understand it and apply it.

God promised. He keeps his promises.

Scripture for Tuesday, May 9 (5/9)

The scripture for today, May 9 (5/9), is Matthew 5:9 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

00-cover-kindle-medium-new“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.”

Jesus, the only begotten Son of God (Christians are adopted sons) was a peacemaker. He came to earth to help us make peace with God. After all, “all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It only takes one sin to be a sinner. And God cannot dwell with sin. What was the solution?

Romans 6:23 says the wages we collect for sinning is death. In Old Testament times, God let people kill a perfect animal in their place. But they kept having to do it. Finally, Jesus came to earth and lived that perfect life that is impossible for us to live as the perfect Lamb of God. Then he allowed himself to take our punishment for our (not his) sins and be killed in our place (collected the wages we earn). His was the final sacrifice. Now, by following Jesus, God adopts us and makes us his children. Jesus was a peacemaker between God and man.

You, too, can be a peacemaker. You can help people be at peace with themselves. You can help them be at peace with each other. And you can help them be at peace with God. Thereby, you can share in what God’s begotten Son was ~ a peacemaker.

Do some peacemaking today.
