The scripture for today, October 6, is Jeremiah 10:6 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-Joseph-Cover-Kindle-MediumNo one is like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.”

The word “name” here is from the Hebrew word for “renown” ~ shem. This same word is sometimes translated fame. Sometimes we say someone “has made a name for himself” to indicate s/he has become successful and possibly even powerful.

The Lord is known to this prophet (Jeremiah) as being more mighty and powerful than any being in existence.

Do you see the Lord this way? Not in a general sense, but a personal sense? Think back over your life. In what way has the Lord used his power to cause certain “coincidental” things to occur in your life just at the right time? How did it make you feel toward him?

The scripture for today, October 5, is 2nd Corinthians 10:5f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-Cover-KINDLE“Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.”

This is about the 40 years that the Jews wandered in the wilderness between leaving their slavery in Egypt and beginning a nation for themselves. They believed their way was better than God’s way. They kept God at a distance.

Events in the Old Testament are there as examples to us. Do we keep God at a distance? In that case, God keeps us at a distance. God treats us the way we treat him. The early Jews did not want to listen to God, so God did not listen to them.

Do we want God to treat us the way we treat him?

The scripture for today, September 2, is Job 9:2 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

HS-COVER-KINDLE-GOLD“Though one wishes to dispute with Him [God], he could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.”

There are so-called sophisticated intellectuals in the world who want to come up with all the answers about God. Many even make God in their image instead of we being made in God’s image. They try to reduce God to complete human understanding.

That cannot be! If we could understand everything about God, He would not be God! Let us rejoice that there are things about God we do not understand. Let us rejoice that there are events in our life that we do not understand ~ the good, the bad, the ugly. Let us rejoice that such a God loves us in our finiteness.

The scripture for today, July 12, is Revelation 7:12 in the New Testament of the Bible:

00-Heroes-Alone-COVER-KINDLE“Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God forever and ever. Amen!”

How often do we praise God? Praise is more than thanking Him. Praise refers to God’s attributes. Let’s see what these words mean in the original Greek language of the New Testament:

Glory: magnificently beautiful
Wisdom: great understanding
Thanks: bestowed favor
Honor: great weight and power

God deserves all this from us. Some people think God is ugly, He doesn’t understand them, He is against them, and is for weaklings. Some even hate God and are even repulsed at the idea of worshipping him. They just don’t know God.

Today, will you help someone know God?

The scripture for today, June 18, is 2nd Chronicles 6:18a as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

00-Heroes-Alone-COVER-KINDLE“But will God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you.”

Did you ever want to see God, to talk to him face to face? Perhaps something bad had just happened in your life and you had this urge to bawl him out, then let him explain why. Or did you ever want to touch God? Perhaps you were so very lonely that you desperately needed his arms around you, and feel his touch as he brushed away your tears.

But, if we could see him and touch him, it would mean that he could not be with others in the world at that time, and could not hear anyone else’s prayers at that time except yours.

Let us be grateful that we cannot see and touch him for now. He is always available to all of us, regardless of where we are in this vast world and regardless of how many others are praying to him at that moment.

How he can sort out all our prayers at once is mind-boggling. How he can be everywhere at once is amazing.

The Scripture for today, May 20, is 2nd Corinthians 5:20a as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

When we are in pain and long for reassurances that God is with us, one of the things we often want is to see God, feel God’s touch, look into God’s eyes.

This is where Christians come in. God says to Christians, “Go to those in pain. Let them see you, feel your touch, look into your eyes.”

Are you God’s ambassador? Is God doing anything through you?

The scripture for today, January 23, is Romans 1:23 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

REV-Cover-Kindle“….and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.”

Do you ever wish you could see God, touch God, look God in the eye? Everyone has. And we may wonder why we can’t.

If this were the case, then God wouldn’t be God. He wouldn’t be omnipresent (present everywhere). He would only be able to listen to one prayer at a time, and the rest of the world’s prayers would go unheard.

Let us be grateful our God is so great that He cannot be limited. He is so great He cannot be pictured. He is so great that He fills heaven. He is so great that He fills our hearts and our souls.

The scripture for today, December 13, is Ecclesiastes 12:13 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

Old Testament Survey-Cover-Kindle“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

When the King James Version was published in the early 1600s, they italicized all words that were not in the original language of the Bible. The word “duty” above was not in the original.Translators inserted it to help us understand the original. But perhaps in this case it did not help. Fearing God is the whole of man ~ not our duty, but our essence.

Fearing the Lord is a gift. Isaiah 11:2 predicted regarding Jesus: “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him ~
“…the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,”
“…the Spirit of counsel and of power,”
“…the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Solomon had tried everything to find happiness, as he explained in his book of Ecclesiastes ~ Pleasure (ch. 2), hard work (ch. 3), advancement (ch. 4), riches (ch. 5). None brought him true happiness. Eventually, he concluded that only one thing can bring that happiness deep down inside where no one and no situation in life can touch it ~ God. God is the whole of man ~ if we let Him be.

Why? Ecclesiastes 3:11 explains it richly: “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” Another way to view this is “There is a God-shaped emptiness in the heart of man.” Fill your mind with the Word of God. Then God will fill your heart and being, and make you feel full.

The scripture for today, September 10, is Psalm 9:10 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

Header-Jesus' Hands In Clouds“Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

What if we had a friend who we never alled by name? It was always “Hey, you”. Our friendship wouldn’t last long, because the other person would feel like we weren’t friends after all. Makes sense.

So, what does “Lord” mean in the original Hebrew language of the Old Testament? It is Yahweh, translated in the Greek as Adonai.

In Exodus 3:15b God told Moses what his name was: ” ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers…This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.’ ”

And what does Yahweh mean? Exodus 3:14 explained, “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites; ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” God is the great I AM.

Jesus explained it this way just before his death in John 14:6, ” ‘I AM the way and the truth and the life”.

We do not have just any god. Our God has a name. He is I AM, he is self-existent, he is life.

And so we worship him ~ the Lord our God.

The scripture for today, August 3, is 1st Corinthians 8:3 as found in the New Testament of the Bible.

How can God know us all individually? Just how does God do it? There are multiplied millions of us. All praying with our own set of problems, sometimes thousands of us at once. All singing our various hymns. All trying to do right in the name of God.

This Creator of the entire universe, the Maker of stars and sunflowers and little puppies and unfathomable oceans, knows each person who loves him. Not “knows about”, but KNOWS! With all that is going on in the world, yea even in the universe, he still knows which ones of us love him, and he takes the time to know us!

How large he is. How small we are.

Utter amazement!

And so we worship him.
