A witch brought Samuel back from the dead to talk to King Saul.

  • I Samuel 28:11-14; 19  Numbers 24:1;    Mark 9:4
  • (1 King 17:17-24;  II Kings 4:18-37; II Kings 13:20-21;
  • Luke 7:11-17;  Luke 8:49-56;  John 11:1-44; Matthew 28:1-20;  Acts 9:36-42;  Acts 20:7–12)

Fact Of the Day

No! (1) She had apparently never brought anyone back to life. The witch was surprised when she saw the “ghost”. (2) It came up out of the ground. Any human God allowed to return to earth was just suddenly there (appeared). (3) No one brought back from the dead ever become dead a few minutes later. (4) Just because what the “ghost” said came true does not prove it was Samuel; Pagan Balaam’s prophecy came true also.

David was a little boy when he killed Goliath with his toy slingshot.

I Samuel 9:1-2;  I Samuel 10:23; I Samuel 16:18;  I Samuel 17:38-39

Fact Of the Day

No! Before killing Goliath, he had killed a lion and a bear single handedly.  Saul was probably 7 feet tall.  But David was big enough to wear Saul’s tunic and armor and walk around in them.   He was called “a mighty man of valor” even before facing Goliath.

King Saul was a bad king from the very beginning.

I Samuel 13:1;   I Samuel 14:47-52;  I Samuel 15:25

Fact Of the Day

No! He was king 42 years. For over 40 years he fought all of Israel’s enemies “valiantly.   He fought against all his enemies on every side” —  Moabites, Edomites, the Zobahites, the Philistines, the Amalekites, But “the war against the Philistines was severe all the days of Saul.”  At the end, Saul offered a sacrifice (only allowed to be done by priests).  So he was told “Because you have rejected the WORD OF THE LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.” At the end, it was his disobedience and jealousy that destroyed him.

Once in their Promised Land, the Jews worshiped only the one true God.

Joshua, Judges, I & II Kings  II Chronicles; Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Zephaniah, Jeremiah, Amos

Fact Of the Day

No!  Arabs were descendants of Abraham through Ishmael and were in  Lebanon, Syria, northern Palestine and south of Palestine and worshiped hundreds of gods.  Canaanites were descendants of Abraham through wife Keturah and were all along the coast of the Great Sea and inland to the Dead Sea and worshipped hundreds of gods.  Of all the multiplied hundreds of gods the Jews had to choose from among the pagans, the Jews — descendants of Abraham through Isaac — chose 14 of them.  They were all gods of power and war, often worshipped with child sacrifices (legalized child killing) and of fertility, worshipped with temple priests and priestesses (legalized prostitution). How devastated father Abraham would have felt were he still alive.

Oops of the Day

The Jews drove out all the nations that worshiped terrible false gods and then settled into their Promised Land, following only the one true God.

Judges 1:19-31

Fact Of the Day

No!

  • *The tribe of Judah did not drive out all the Amalekites from their territory (Judges 1:19)
  • *The tribe of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites from their territory (Judges 1:21
  • *The tribe of Manasseh did not drive out the Canaanites from their territory (Judges 1:27-28)
  • *The tribe of Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites from their territory (Judges 1:29)
  • *The tribe of Zebulun did not drive out the Canaanites from their territory (Judges 1:30)
  • *The tribe of Asher did not drive out the Canaanites from their territory (Judges 1:31)
  • *The tribe of Naphtali did not drive out the Canaanites from their territory (Judges 1:32-33)

WHY?  Because the Jews began worshiping their gods.  Most were gods of power (often worshiped by child sacrifice (legalized child killing)  and goddesses of fertility, worshipped with temple priestesses (legalized prostitution).

Surprise of the Day

Samuel Had a Musical Family

I Samuel 1:2, 10-11;  I Chronicles 6:25-36

Fact Of the Day

He inherited his musical genes from his mother. When childless Hannah was praying at the tabernacle for a son, the original Hebrew said she was singing. That may account for High Priest Eli thinking she was drunk. (Shame on him.) Maybe she was sitting and rocking back and forth with the son in her arms that she only dreamed of having. Samuel had a family of singers.   One of Samuel’s grandsons was “Heman the singer” in Temple worship. He was the first in a long line of descendants of “Heman the singer” even during Solomon’s time. Check it out in Chronicles. It is very interesting.

Oops of the Day

Samuel was eligible to become high priest because he was of the tribe of Levi.

I Samuel 1:2, 10-11, I Chronicles 6:25-36

Fact Of the Day

No!  Samuel’s father was Elkhanah, an Ephriam-ite. But, his later descendants were Levites.  Apparently, Levite high priest, Eli, adopted Samuel at age 2 when his mother took him to the temple to live. As a boy he served as a priest.  Later, he became high priest.

Judges 3:8 &14;   Judges 4:2-3;   Judges 6:1;   Judges 10:8;   Judges13:1.

Fact Of the Day

No!  After they moved into their Promised Land as led by Joshua, each time they left God and worshiped pagan false gods, they were weakened so much, they served six pagans kingdoms a total of 111 years.

  1. Mesopotamia – 8 years.
  2. Moab ;  – 18 years
  3. Canaan – 20 years
  4. Midian – 7 years
  5. Amon – 18 years
  6. Philistia – 40 years

Two women conquered a nation’s army near Nazareth from nearby Mount Tabor and the valley below.

Judges chapter 4; Isaiah 9:1-2; Matthew 4:13-17

Fact Of the Day

Mt. Tabor was the closest mountain to Nazareth and probably where Joseph and Jesus went to chop down trees for lumber. (They didn’t have lumber yards then.)  This is where Deborah, fourth judge & prophetess. led the Israelite army to do battle. The entire Canaanite army was destroyed in the valley below.  After the battle a second woman  destroyed Sisera, their famous captain, and left the Canaanites powerless.

Rahab Was a Harlot.

Joshua 2; Matthew 1:5-6

Fact Of the Day

No!  She was an inn keeper, but that did not make her a harlot.  Her family, including her parents, lived there.  Rahab was probably the gr gr gr grandmother of David.
