Scripture for Saturday, December 24 (12/24)

The scripture for today, December 24, is Luke 12:24 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!”

In many nations right now, things are financially strained. Luxuries? No. To be able to live until tomorrow? Probably.

Which is more valuable? To impress men or impress God? A life dedicated to things impresses men. A life dedicated to doing good things impresses God.

Oh, Jesus. You had such a way of explaining the Father’s relationship God wants with us, his creation. He loves us so. Such love. Such undying, everlasting love.

PS ~ Those of you with children, and you cannot get them much for Christmas: Write IOU’s to them and put each one in a box. Wrap each with typing paper if you don’t have Christmas paper. And with a red or green crayon, draw a ribbon on top. What’s on the IOU’s? “One hour of coloring with you.” “One hour of playing ball with you.” “Three hours of hiking with you.” “Two hours of baking cookies with you.” Give yourself for Christmas!

The scripture for today, January 17, is James 1:17 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

FunWithBibleNumbers-Cover-Kindle“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Do you sometimes feel slighted because other people get more gifts on special occasions (or even between special occasions) than you do?

No need to feel that way. Christians get the goods ones. Christians get the perfect ones. We get them all! And our heavenly Father will never stop showering us with those “good gifts,” those “perfect gifts.”

These gifts are good and perfect because they are forever gifts. And what can be better than that?

The scripture for today, January 26, is 1st Samuel 1:26f as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

HS-COVER-KINDLE-GOLD“And she said to him, ‘As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. I prayed for this child and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him.”

Hannah was telling the priest that God had answered her prayer. How often do you tell someone God has answered our prayer? Or do you wander aimlessly from one prayer request to prayer request, and let the answer drift away from you unnoticed? Or worse, do you ask others to pray for something, but after once or twice you stop praying yourself?

Begin today to keep a list of your prayer requests. Write down the date you first began to pray for each. If your requests are all about yourself, begin including your neighbors, your co-workers, people you attend church with, your relatives, people in the newspaper.

Then begin a second list of your answers and the dates. You will be amazed how fast your Prayers Answered list grows. So do not let the answers drift away from you unnoticed.

Notice them.
Claim them.
Tell others.

And spend the rest of your life thanking God over and over and over….

The scripture for today, July 9 (7/9) is Deuteronomy 7:9 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.”

Our amazing God!  He loved our great great grandparents and He will love our great great grandchildren.  The average age of having children is 30.  Therefore, if we took this literally, 1000 generations would be 30,000 years.  In that case, we’ve only just begun.

If taken figuratively, 10 to the Jews meant all inclusiveness, and 1000 is 10 x 10 x 10 or all inclusiveness times all inclusiveness times all inclusiveness.  This means God will love us all inclusive years, times all inclusive years, times all inclusive years ~ for eternity!

And God gives everything we ask of him if it is good for us.  All He asks in return is for us to give the little bit that He asks of us ~ faithfulness and keeping his few commandments.   What a grand arrangement!

The scripture for today, June 24 (6/24),  is Numbers 6:24f as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

This beautiful blessing from the Bible has been set to music and turned into a spiritual song.  Click here and you should be able to hear it sung: http://woodlandoaks.org/audio/Singing%202008-12-14/The%20Lord%20Bless%20You%20and%20Keep%20You.mp3 (This is congregational singing, not a choir.)

The scripture for today, May 11 (5/11), is 1st  Peter 5:11 as found in the New Testament of the Bible: “To him be the power for ever and ever.  Amen.” God has the power to do more for you than you ever dreamed.  He can take you in new directions in your life; arrange for you to meet wonderful people; provide the ability to overcome not-so-good things in your life.   All you have to do is ask.  Perhaps more than once.  Perhaps many times.  But he wants you to ask.  Why? Parents sometimes tell their children “no” the first time they ask for something.  Maybe it’s because the child needs to find our for him/herself how badly s/he wants it.  It’s in the asking that they find out.  So God waits for the request.  Sometimes the request never comes.  And so the blessing never comes.   Remember, God has the power.  He may have something special in mind for you.  So ask.
