Scripture for Wednesday 12/20 ~ Follow Your Heart

The scripture for today, December 20, is 2nd Corinthians 12:20b as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

00-cover-kindle-medium-new“….I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.”

It can happen among well-meaning people trying to accomplish the same good work but from a different angle. Do we insist our way is the best way, and people will be lost if the committee/congregation doesn’t do things our way? Do we then get hurt and think (or say) everyone else doesn’t love the lost like we do? Then are we tempted to just drop out?

A good test when personalities clash is to ask ourselves, “Would this congregation survive without me?” Of course it would. It did before we came and would after.

A good solution: If our heart is set on a certain good work, but no one else’s heart is, do what we can alone. We don’t need a committee to follow our heart.

Let us prefer one another, honor one another, and love one another. We are family ~ God’s family.

Scripture for Thursday 12/7 ~ We Are Never Alone

The scripture for today, December 7, is Luke 12:7 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

06-Moses-KindleMediumjpg“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Jesus had just said that God knows every sparrow individually. Amazing! This God of ours, this Creator of ours knows everything that is going on in his world, and knows everyone in his world, regardless of where we are in the world.

Is God invisible? To us he is. Why?  He is too big to see.  If we stand so close to a building we can see only one brick, we really do not know what the building looks like.  It is the same with God. We are so close to him, we cannot see all of him. But that does not matter. It just shows how close he is to us.

Not only does He know everyone, but He knows our name, our likes, our dislikes, our struggles, our joys, if we bump into a door, how much we paid for groceries this week ~ everything. He is with us where ever we go. There is no place we can go that he is not there.

We are never alone.

Scripture for Thursday, August 24 (8/24)

The scripture for today, August 24 (8/24) is Romans 8:24f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

0-michel-cover-kindle-medium“For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

Faith. Sometimes we go through a period of our life in which it is difficult to have faith that God exists; or even if he does exist, that he cares what happens to us.

Dear friend, during those times, you may not be able to have faith. But you can HOPE. You can hope God exists, you can hope he cares what happens to you.

Even the weakest person can hope. And hope holds us until we are strong enough to, once again, have faith.

So, the next time your faith waivers (and it happens to everyone at some time in their life), remember, you can still hope.

Scripture for Wednesday, March 29 (3/29)

The scripture for today, March 29, is Luke 3:29 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

00-Heroes-Alone-COVER-KINDLE“…the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi….”

Who in the world were these five men: Joshua, Eliezer, Jorim, Matthat and Levi? Some were named after famous Jews, but no one in this list was famous himself. In fact, nothing else is said in the Bible about any of these men. They’re just a single name in a single but long list.
Who were they that they earned even one brief mention in the Bible?

They were ancestors of Jesus on his human side. What else? They were born and survived long enough to have sons. Not important at the time? No, but eventually it was.

We read obituaries and sometimes wonder about our own. Our whole life reduced to born, married, had a job, had children, died. That’s it. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just another one of billions in the world having come and gone.

Hold on! Maybe not!

Maybe your life, as ordinary as it seems now, will someday serve a greater purpose through a descendant or someone you become friends with. In a later generation ~ maybe ten or twenty generations from now ~ someone may do something extremely important for souls of the world. And it was made possible because of your “unordinary life” way back in the early twenty-first century when you survived one day at a time. So, keep on keeping on!
