The scripture for today, August 2 (8/2), is Matthew 8:2 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:0-Cover-KINDLE

A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean! Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.’ “

People in Jesus’ day who had leprosy had to live outside of town in what we would call a leper colony. And if someone without leprosy started getting close too them, they were required to call out, “Unclean! Unclean!”

But here was a man who apparently pushed his way through a crowd where he didn’t belong. He didn’t ask Jesus if he could heal him; he asked if he was willing to. After all, he was “unclean”. Remarkably, Jesus said yes.

Then Jesus did another remarkable thing: He touched the man. He touched the leprosy. Not only was he willing to be seen with an unclean man, he was willing to touch the disease.

Jesus still does this today. When we come to him with a diseased heart wondering if we are good enough, Jesus reaches out across the centuries and touches us. And his voice echoes across the centuries and says, “I am willing.”

No matter how much sin mars your life, Jesus still today can say, “Be clean.”

The scripture for today, August 1 (8/1), is Romans 8:1 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:0-Cover-KINDLE

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

There are a lot of religious groups out there in the world who control their people with fear. If you don’t do such and such, it proves you aren’t spiritual enough. If you do such and such one second before you die, you’re going to hell.

They put burdens on you that just are not in the New Testament. By making you feel guilty, they make you depend on them for your salvation and that boosts their ego. The Apostle Paul wrote to the congregations in Galatia (today’s Turkey) and warned them with tears:

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel ~ which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached [past tense] to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Am I now trying to win the approval of men or of God? Or am I trying to please men? ” (Galatians 1:6-10).

Are you sure you are IN Christ Jesus? Do your church leaders dance around scriptures they wish weren’t in the Bible and tell you they don’t really mean what they say? Or add things that the scriptures say nothing about? Are you sure they aren’t people pleasers instead of God pleasers? What do they do with Romans 6:3-4? Look it up and compare.

Oh to be sure we are indeed IN Christ Jesus. This is our longing. Our hope. Our reason for being.

The scripture for today, July 31 (7/31) is 1st Corinthians 7:31b as found in the New Testament of the Bible:0-Cover-KINDLE

“For this world in its present form is passing away.”

How easily that which we have slaved for over a period of years can pass away. It can happen as the result of fire, floods, storms, war, economic crisis. Every day something in this world “is passing away.”

What are you working for day to day? That which can so easily pass away? Or that which is eternal and will never pass away? What are your plans for today? Think about it.

The scripture for today, July 25 (7/25), is Hebrews 7:25 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him [Jesus], because he always lives to intercede for them.”

Indeed, all of mankind is invited to come to God through Jesus. There are scriptures in the Bible about being chosen by God. But when you check the original Greek, it means you are being invited by God. If a company puts out a newspaper ad inviting people to be interviewed for hiring, the company can only choose those who accepted the invitation.

And something else stands out in that verse. Jesus is our intercessor, our mediator. Why would we want anyone lower than Jesus to be our intercessor when Jesus will do so himself?

How amazing! In one sentence we see that God the Father invites all of mankind to come to him to be saved completely, and that God the Son is our ever-present intercessor.

Such love. Such divine love. It is beyond comprehension. All we can do is fall to our knees and whisper, “Thank you.”

The scripture for today, July 6 (7/6), is Mark 7:6f as found in the New Testament of the Bible.

“He [Jesus] replied, ‘Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:  “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ “

It is the trend today to say that all religions ~ even those who teach opposing things ~ are right and all are good.  But Jesus did not say this.  Well, then, how do we know which religious things we are taught and do today are from God and which from men?

You are smart.  Read the sacred writings of all major world religions for yourself.  Do they have built-in proofs they are really sacred ~ scientific, archaeological, ancient inscriptions, prophecies fulfilled?  Here is a website with nearly 400 proofs the Bible is from God:

Then, if you conclude the Bible is true, use a concordance and do a study of everything the Bible says about any topic.  That way you will have God’s opinion, not men’s.

Here is a website with an online Bible concordance and it’s easy to use:

You can find out for your self, you can KNOW, whether what you were told to believe by family, friends, and leaders is what God told you to believe.

The scripture for today, July 5 (7/5), is  2nd Corinthians 7:5ff as found in the New Testament of the Bible.

“For when we came into Macedonia, this body of ours had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn ~ conflicts on the outside, fears within.  But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him.  He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever.”

Oh how much we need each other.

Sometimes in life we go into our own Macedonia where we have no rest and are full of fear. Our Macedonia may be religious or political or medical; or it may be at work, out on the street, or at home.

At such times we need a Titus to help us, to encourage us.  Our Titus may be a relative, a neighbor, a friend, or even a stranger.

Have you been a Titus to anyone lately?  Look around.  Be a Titus to someone today.  You are so very needed.

The scripture for today, June 20 (6/20), is Matthew 6:20f as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

In describing heaven, terms are used like pearls, diamonds, emeralds, gold, and so on.  So certainly God is not against riches.  Otherwise he would not have described heaven with those terms.

So what is the problem?  We must ask ourselves, “If I lost everything tomorrow, could I face life?”  We may say yes, but what about friends who are now unsure they want to associate with someone with nothing?  So, it is not only a greed problem, but a social problem.  It is a problem of losing both our possessions and our friends.

Some have solved this problem by moving out into the country where possessions and social status don’t mean so much. Or we could stay where we are and just change our choice of friends.  Our new friends may be truer friends than we ever had before and may need us.

Lastly, if we lost our job, our car, our home ~ our identity ~ would we be so devastated that we would contemplate suicide as some have done?  Or would we be able to look around us and see what we can do without having possessions and without having a job to occupy our time?

There are always things we can do for others.  Is that truly where our heart is?  In that case, loss of everything will not bring catastrophe. Rather, it would give opportunity to reveal what stuff we are made of deep down inside where our true treasure is ~ in our heart.

The scripture for today, May 12 (5/12), is 1st Kings 5:12 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“The Lord gave Solomon wisdom, just as he had promised him.”

God makes a promise of wisdom to Christians today.  James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Amazing!  God doesn’t sit around and tell certain people, “You really messed up.  Your life is full of turmoil. Now you come to me expecting me to fix it for you.”  No, God does not throw our faults in our face.  It’s no use dwelling in the past; that is history.  He is ready and willing to provide guidance for the present and future, the now and later.

How do we know God’s wisdom?  We surely do not have to guess.  He has everything he wants us to know in his word, the Bible ~ examples of people who did and did not mess up their lives, and words of advice.  All we have to do is open it, and ask God to help us understand it and apply it.

God promised.  And he keeps his promises.
