The scripture for today, October 21, is Proverbs 10:21 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-BOOK 4-FOLK HERO-COVER“The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment.”

What do you talk about during the day? Do you use proper judgment? Do you nourish others by what you say to them? Are you a complainer or complimenter? Are you rude or patient? Do you glare or smile? Do you criticize the wrong a person does, or praise the right that person does? Do you sing of your love of God on Sunday and use swear words the rest of the week?

Today, go out of your way to nourish everyone you talk to. Start a new habit. They will see God in you.

The scripture for today is Proverbs 10:10 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

0-Cover-KINDLE“He who winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.”

How can eye winking be malicious? Let’s look further at Proverbs 6:12-14 ~ “A scoundrel and villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plans evil with deceit in his heart ~ he always stirs up dissension.”

Have we ever said something to someone, but turned to someone else in the room and winked as though to let the second person know we didn’t really mean what we just said? That made our words a lie.

We might have pre-arranged signals before a meeting, such as crossing our feet as a signal we do or don’t like what is being said. Or we may run our fingers over our hair, or tap 3 times on a table as a pre-arranged signal to someone else in the room. If we are saying one thing but signaling something else to our partner, then our words are lies.

Perhaps we think it is purely innocent and claim that everyone does it. But Revelation 21 says “…all liars ~ their place will be in the fiery lake.”

So, from now on, let us be truthful in everything we say in word and deed. It can be done. And it is liberating.

The scripture for today, October 9, is Job 10:9 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

00-Heroes-Alone-COVER-KINDLE“Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again?”

Job was sick, his so-called friends came to him to say God was punishing him, and Job was frustrated. He could not reason with his friends, so he tried to reason with God. It was a lovers’ quarrel.

By verse 18, he was so upset with God that he said, “Why then did you bring me out of the womb? I wish I had died before any eye saw me.”

Job’s body was broken, and even more his spirit was broken. Satan was doing everything he could to get Job to deny God. But, even though Job argued with God and perhaps came close to denying him, he always acknowledged the good God did along with the bad. He just didn’t understand the bad.

We don’t understand the bad in our lives. But remember, it is Satan that causes the bad to happen. God may step back and let Satan give it a try, but we are not their toys. We are soldiers in the army of God. When Satan throws darts at us, we hold up the shield of faith.

Sometimes, the bad happening in our life is God’s assignment for us. We are part of the war between God and Satan. As good and loyal soldiers, we take our assignments and stand firm. We may complain, but we still stand firm. We may trip sometimes, but still we stand firm. Being a soldier in the army of God is not easy. But the battle will be won. Some day. So stand firm!

Today is my last day at the Harding University lectureship in Searcy, Arkansas. My books are on sale in the rotunda until 3:30 today.

Next Sunday through Tuesday I will be at Oklahoma Christian University with my books for sale at the conservatory. Stop by and say hello.

The scripture for today, September 3, is 1st Kings 9:3 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

00-COVER-KINDLE“The Lord said to him, ‘I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.’ “

The New Testament builds spiritual concepts on the basic material patterns of the Old Testament. For example, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?” (1st Corinthians 3:16). This is the temple God wants now, not the old material temple of the Old Testament.

Just as there was just one material temple of God in the Old Testament, God looks upon each Christian as though we are the only temple; for he is with us constantly and hears our every word, our every song, our every prayer.

Is your heart troubled today? Is your heart joyful today? Are you at peace with everything around you? Do you see conflicts that you do not know how to solve?

As God’s temple, then God’s eyes and heart are with you. God sees and watches out for you in everything you do! He knows your cares, your heart’s desires, you joys, your worries. God’s eyes and heart are always with you, for you are God’s temple!

The scripture for today, September 1, is Psalm 9:1 as found in the Old Testament of the Bible:

“I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.”

I knew a lady many years ago who talked to God all day as though he were sitting or standing beside her, whether she was cleaning floors, washing dishes, going shopping, or just received a telephone call. She talked to God about everything she was doing. God was her constant companion.

What opportunities we miss to talk to God during the day. Every time we do, we are praising Him. How? By acknowledging His concern with everything we do, and in the process acknowledging His omnipresence. And what a wonder His omnipresence is!

Does this include times when everything in our life is going wrong? You bet! On some days, the wonders of God are about the only positive things we can find in our life.

Praising God for his wonders amidst your frustrations, tears, fears and helplessness can lift you out of the mire. It can remind you that you are not alone; for God sees what is happening to you, and in his own way he will perform a wonder for you too.

The scripture for today, August 30, is Acts 8:30 as found in the New Testament of the Bible:

“Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ Philip asked.”

Our friends, family and neighbors will continue riding their chariots and understanding little of the Bible unless someone asks, “Do you understand?”.

“Do you understand why you are here?” “Do you understand why Jesus had to die?” “Do you understand that Jesus nailed the Old Law to the cross?” “Do you understand the Bible can be proven true?” “Do you understand how much God loves you?”

People are afraid to ask us questions because they think we will make fun of their ignorance. We’ll probably never know what they don’t understand unless we do the asking. Let us go up to their chariots and offer to help them so that they, too, can understand.

The scripture for today, August 19, is Isaiah 8:19f as found in the Old Testament of the Bible”

Header-Jesus' Hands In Clouds“When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.”

It has always been a popular thing to do among some people to try to reach into the spirit world, the world of demons and the dead. They may be very religious people. They may pray a lot and go to worship a lot and read the Bible a lot. But God’s word is not enough for them, so they delve into the other world. God says “they have no light of dawn.”

Do you want to talk to someone in the other world? Pray. God is in the other world. Do you want someone in the other world to talk to you? Read the Bible. That is God talking to you from the other world. What more could we ask?!

How safe we can feel as Christians. God has given us all we need.

The Kingdom of God and the Resurrection of Jesus

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is, needless to say, a seminal event in history. So much has been written; the possible implications are huge, but for this discussion, I’ll keep in a Kingdom context. The first thing we can learn from this event is that Jesus is our contemporary; He is with us now, living and working in our midst. In addition, as He promised His disciples, His Spirit lives within us, ready and able to comfort, guide and lead us in our service to Him, fulfilling Jesus’ promise in Matthew 28: 28: “Surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” “The age” is the very same age in which we are living right now.

Secondly, it tells us that there is life after death. I realize that many people have a hard time…
