0-BK 7-ShadowOfDeath-Cover-new-ThumbnailAh, ElDeah, All-Knowing God, I praise you for your greatness and minuteness.  You dwell in the cosmos and you dwell in each tiny atom. You are directed energy, determined love, the head, heart and soul of the universe. Nature praises your reliability and predictability. My spirit praises you for bringing life and brightness and wonder into the world. When the sun shines on me, I know it is you. When raindrops happily skip on the ground, I know it is you. When the rainbow emerges among dark clouds, it, of course, is you.

Your patience with mankind through the centuries is beyond comprehension. You answer sometimes silly (to you) daily prayers while having to keep everything in the cosmos synchronized. And,  in the flesh of Jesus, you came at just the right time after mankind had tried everything to be perfect and realized it is impossible.  You offered Satan your blood in exchange for freeing me.  Oh, glorious thought ~ all you have done and continue to do to rescue me from Satan and keep the way clear for me to live on the heights with you someday forever. Thank you, too, for seekers around the world.  Send more to me so I can reach out to them. Thank you for their souls that, hopefully, I may offer up to you someday.

STAR TREK

STAR TREK. On nights I have to work to midnight or later, I crawl into bed. But, occasionally I get done by 9:00 or 10:00. To unwind, since I have Netflix, I watch half an hour of old TV reruns. Right now, it’s Star Trek. When it came out the first time, I thought the plots were silly, but I enjoyed the banter between Bones and Spock and how Capt. Kirk got them out of impossible situations.

Sometimes I get tickled at the plot, but last night, I guffawed. Someone stole Spock’s brain!  Well, the Starship Enterprise wanted it back. Of course, it was taken w/o surgery. They took empty-headed Spock with them so they could fix him back up instantly if ever they could find Spock’s brain. He walked like a Zombie, but when they finally found his brain, he supervised reinstalling it. Ha, ha.

The show only lasted 3 years during the Viet Nam War and started a revolution. Hmmm… Who else lasted only 3 years and started a spiritual revolution….

Book Recommendation

Rising Heat in Tehran

I would like to recommend this book written by a missionary who freely converted Muslims to Christ in Iran between 1974 and 1979. That year, Ayatollah Khomeini made his triumphal entry into his homeland, created a constitution that said only an imam could lead the country, and declared it now was the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Author Don Petty worked there with an American company, so supported himself and his wife and children.

By the time the Pettys left three years later, they had built up a congregation of 120 Christians in Tehran.  Most of the book is about the members and their conversions.  They are wonderful stories of courage.  Toward the end of the book, he speaks of the riots and American companies being forced to leave.  This is what he wrote:

“Trying to see the future seemed futile on that airplane, but my memories of what I was leaving in Iran were real and remained dominatingly vivid.  Behind me was the land of Persia, mighty kingdom in the days of Cyrus and Darius, Esther and Daniel, a land invaded by Alexander the Great.  I was leaving behind the fruit of my work, some newly converted souls.  My minuscule part in the great plan of God to “gather souls” for spiritual purposes and life eternal, was closing as far as teaching the Gospel of Christ among the Iranian people.”

I hear rumors from many sources that the underground church in Iran is still flourishing.

How I love thinking about you, for your Word says you think about me all the time. What could I achieve in a day without you? How could I think and judge and do in a day without you? How could my soul survive without you?

Ah, thank you, my Lord, for showing me how to live your divine Words. Thank you, Spirit divine, for helping me walk as Jesus walked and speak as Jesus spoke. Such a blessing available to all people and to me. Life is not worth living without you. Thank you for being able to have my very own copy of your Word and the time to read it, study it, and understand it. I am most blest.

The thought of you is staggering and beyond my comprehension.  Still, you reveal yourself and leave it up to me to understand what I can. That understanding is just a shadow, a whisper in this vast cosmos. Someday I will understand ~ well, maybe. Will it ever be possible? I am only human. Still, on that Someday, I will comprehend and praise you more than I ever imagined.

Your Bible, my Lord, is such a blessing. It is not confusion. It is not chaos in its wondering about this and that. It is not madness in careless guessing. It is order and harmony, peace and tranquility, it is the ultimate truth. There it is just waiting for me to discover its treasures. You open your mind and heart to me in your Bible, along with your Plans, your movings, your yearnings for me. A love letter from God it is. When I read, it is as though I am in a dazzling mist and seeing you afar. Thank you for your Bible, your heart.

You intercede when I am too weak, but make me fight when I doubt both myself and you. I am never weak when you are near. I cannot see you, but oh how I know when you are at my side. I know when you are stepping between me and danger. I know when you are lifting me up and making me strong. Then my heart soars. I look up to you, am awed by you, and worship you.

Thank you, Lord God, for giving me your Words.  In them, you pour out your heart to me. When I read them, I weep with you, I laugh with you, I feel triumphant with you.  I read of all your own ups and downs as you call out to mankind, “Follow me.  I can lead you to safety. Follow me!”  And all the while, mankind replies with, “Why?  I’m fine doing what I am doing.  Falling?  I’m not falling. It’s all just a game.”  You created me for a purpose.  I will know what that ultimate purpose is when I am fully with you. But, until then, when people insult, I will forgive. When people gossip, I will forgive. When people attack, I will forgive.  And, when I fail to forgive in my weakness, lift me back up to forgive again.  Thank you for the privilege of fighting the fight of love alongside you with your strong forgiveness and indomitable love. Oh, and thank you for a warm home on this cold, rainy winter day and for the soft music in the background and family and friends and the church. My cup overflows.

0000-BK 1-StarSong-Cover-new-ThumbnailPraises belong to you, Jehovah. You are my father ~ my Father!  And so strong. Please win the war for us ~ the war with Satan. I am weak. We all are. You are stronger.  He thinks he is winning, but deep in my heart, I know he is not. There may be more people following him on earth but they are like ants compared with your lion-like strength. All power and glory and majesty are yours.  Of course, you will win! You said so yourself.

Ah, thank you, my Lord, for the way you have taught mankind to trust you. Over and over through the centuries and millenniums, you made promises but almost always said, “Later”.  Your promises are like shooting stars.  Sometimes they are fulfilled when I am not looking.  Sometimes, when I think back, I realize, you DID answer me. Then how amazed I become.  It’s kind of like counting my blessings.  And so, with a trust which you renew in me day by day, I keep plugging along, keep struggling, keep climbing. Oh, such a Lord I have who knows my ups and downs and everything between. Thank you for walking beside me and keeping your promise to never leave me.  And thank you for those times that are sprinkled with unexpected delights.

Silver Cover-KINDLE-thumbnailHow I praise you, my Lord Jehovah, for your love ~ loving me enough to help me become strong with an ethereal strength. Strength that burns with a divine energy.  When I choose to gather with others and worship instead of watching a ball game, something mystic happens in your world: Satan loses and you win.  When someone is mean and I tell them there’s nothing they can say to get me to stop loving them, Satan loses and you win. Everything Satan does, you can undo.  He can make sick, you can heal. He can cause death, you can bring back to life.  He can make me sin, you can forgive. What an amazing God you are.

Oh, it is hard to thank you for tragedies.  I don’t want them. I want to run from them. But, through them you constantly empower me. The more Satan dumps tragedies on me and I respond by refusing to blame you, the weaker he becomes. Through my tears, when I fight Satan’s tragedies with a smile, a whispered song, a gentle thought, I feel you there with me.  Through my groanings, I thank you for the privilege and that you count me worthy.  Ah, Lord God, I would die for you, just as you died for me.
